2 Bleeding you can see Bleeding often looks worse than it is
If a large blood vessel is cut or torn, the person can loose a lot of blood within minutes Ask the person to apply pressure while you put on PPE

3 Dressing Used as a covering to stop bleeding Prevents infection
Can be a gauze pad or a clean piece of cloth or even a gloved hand

6 Phone or ask someone to call your emergency response number if:
There is a lot of bleeding You cannot stop bleeding See signs of shock Suspect head, neck or spine injury Not sure what to do

7 Action Steps Make sure scene is safe Put a dressing on the wound
Use flat part of fingers and hands If bleeding doesn’t stop add more dressings on top and apply pressure Keep pressure on it until stops bleeding If you cant for some reason keep pressure on wound wrap a bandage firmly around

8 If the cut or scrape is minor, wash the area with lots of water to get the wound clean before applying a dressing May use antibiotic ointment for minor cuts and scrapes

9 Using a tourniquet Place 2 inches above injury
Tighten until bleeding stops Note the time it was applied Get medical help ASAP Leave on until more trained professional takes over

10 How to make a tourniquet
Fold a cloth or bandage so that it is at least 1 inch wide Wrap 2 inches above injury Tie ends of the bandage around a stick ( or something similar) Then turn to tighten Continue until bleeding stops

Scene safety-get first aid kit-AED-PPE Have them to lie still Check for signs of shock Do CPR if needed!
