SOLON By: Christina Sulfaro

Solon was son of Execestides Friends wit Peisistrotus Came up with the idea of creating Democracy for Athens Entertained himself by poetry Divided solon society into 5 groups Died at the age of 80

Solon’s Laws Wrote a series of laws and reforms called Solon’s laws. According to Plutarch(who wrote all of Solon’s written records) in his introductory of Solon’s laws he stated “We humbly beg a blessing on our laws, from mighty Jove, and honor and applause.”

Constitution Solon attempted to write the constitution for Athens but it didn’t work. Solon overlooked the class struggle between rich and poor. He allowed the growth of democratic institution.

Poetry Some people don’t know this but Solon was a Poet. He would write poetry to entertain himself One of his poems would be the Constitutional Order. This poem by solon means that no Other city state can defeat Athens with the king of the gods, Zeus. Even though money was not a lot This is still a great city. The Constitutional Order by Solon Of Athens “Never will our city be destroyed by Zeus' decree, Nor by the will of the blessed immortal gods, For, born of a potent father, great- hearted guardian Pallas Athena spreads her hands over our city But, by money seduced, the Athenians themselves Seek mindlessly to corrupt the great city, Joined by the iniquitous schemes of their leaders, Who from arrogance great woes shall suffer: For they understand not how to restrain gluttony, Nor best to order their feasting in quiet.”
