Protecting and serving the people of Kent Key statistics continued….. Over the past year (Nov 13 – Oct 14) 1,270,409 total calls to the FCR 521,663 total incidents reported 266,617 total incidents attended 50,133 ASB incidents 103,238 Victim based crimes 2014/15 total Force budget £280m

Protecting and serving the people of Kent Comprehensive Spending Review 1 CSR 1 required £46m savings over 4 years Only achievable with significant staff reductions A loss of 465 Officers and 621 Police Staff

Protecting and serving the people of Kent Comprehensive Spending Review 2 CSR /16 £20m Challenge By April 2016, predicted staff losses of a further: 91 Officers and 185 Police Staff Comprehensive non-pay review Predicted second round of CSR2 £40m An additional £40 million saving equates to a potential loss of a further 800 Officers

Protecting and serving the people of Kent Impact So Far: CSR1 and 2 A reduction in capacity to attend every crime Increase in workload for remaining officers and staff Changes to the way we deliver services to the public eg. Telephone investigation, TrackMyCrime Removal of some dedicated resources, such as Safer Schools Officers and Marine Unit Fewer “back office” resources supporting officers Working with other agencies to ensure they are fulfilling their responsibilities

Protecting and serving the people of Kent Impact: +£40m possible implications Rebuild of the policing model based on threat and risk – the future might mean physically attending only the most serious of 999 calls, the focus being on responding only to significant incidents and crime Increased response times to less urgent calls impacting on victims The brigading of Districts and Divisions, reducing the numbers and accessibility of local senior officers More victims of crime, as removal of dedicated proactive resource No dedicated officers/staff in specialist functions such as Community Safety, Roads Policing, Crime Scene Investigation etc Danger of becoming a reactive police force

We must significantly reduce demand – Radical steps to be taken such as to stop attending certain call types where responsibility lies with partners e.g. nuisance calls, noise, concern for safety etc. Increasing administrative workload for officers as reduced capability in all areas of business support and some areas of operational support Reducing our estate – Closure of police stations Outsourcing of some functions Regionalisation of police forces Less visible policing Greater reliance on mutual aid i.e. public order
