RESTRICTED Vision 2020 Building an Alliance for the future

RESTRICTED Looking to 2020: Underpinning Principles Our model is based on Legitimacy, Trust and Confidence. Our Vision of Protecting People from Harm is fit for the future.  Our staff believe it, we believe it and it is what we are all about.  Our partners and public understand it. We want however to be “Great at Protecting the most vulnerable in our communities”

RESTRICTED The Future of Policing

RESTRICTED What we will look like in 2020: We will have larger teams with greater spans of control based locally. We will provide 24/7 cover across the full geography of the Alliance. Local Policing will remain geographically based within local communities. The new teams will be supported by a smaller number of centralised specialist units. Where appropriate, we will develop our ‘Hub’ approach. There will be two Operational Command Centres with Resolution facilities attached. We will resolve as many calls as possible at first point of contact. Our policing model will be supported by specials and volunteers; we will increasingly seek to build community resilience and ownership. We will ‘Live the vision’ and prioritise our resources to better protect the most vulnerable in our communities.

RESTRICTED What will it look like in 2020: Four policing areas based on county boundaries

RESTRICTED Our Communities in 2020

RESTRICTED What this will mean for our communities We will be focused on keeping you and the people you care about safe from Crimes that are likely to affect you the most. We will put in place the most effective policing for each of our communities. We will continue to work behind the scenes to keep you and your families safe from crimes such as internet fraud and online grooming. We will work to predict and anticipate new crime trends so that we can respond proactively and robustly. We will continue to focus our street visibility in areas where we know this acts as a deterrent and helps us to respond quickly and effectively.

RESTRICTED What this will mean for our communities We will be organised so that we can respond easily and quickly to incidents in your area. If you need our help, we will provide you with a seamless end-to-end service where you will always have a point of contact to answer your questions and keep you updated. If we need to refer you to one of our partner organisations we will signpost you to the right organisation, first time. We will work closely with our partner organisations, including blue light colleagues, to ensure that you get the best possible service and protection from our organisations. We will continue to promote, enhance and be innovative in our use of volunteers and special constables.

RESTRICTED Our Partners in 2020

RESTRICTED What this will mean for our partners We will work on the basis of shared outcomes, joint single streamlined processes and transform ourselves where possible to support this. We will build on our excellent collaborations and will collaborate further, combining resources where this helps us collectively to provide the best possible service to our shared communities. We will share premises and technology where it enables us to work closer together and reduces costs and provide a better service. Our Alliance estates footprint is likely to shrink. We will be open to the potential of expanding the Alliance.

RESTRICTED Our People in 2020

RESTRICTED What this will mean for our people Our staff will continue to be valued as the cornerstone of what makes our organisation great. Our staff will be equipped with latest technology to carry out their jobs in the most effective and efficient way so that they can work more closely in the community instead of being tied to a police building and its facilities. Our staff will have access to information systems that provide seamless end-to-end crime recording and management. We will be organised in a way that enables our staff to respond quickly and easily to incidents ensuring that we focus on times and areas of highest demand. We will provide our staff with the right training to ensure they have got the skills and confidence to do their job to the best of their ability.

RESTRICTED What this will mean for our people We will ask our staff what they think about key elements of the services we are providing and how we can better deliver these in future. We will listen to the feedback of our staff and ensure that it helps shape our approach and organisation. Our staff will be strong advocates of the Alliance. The Alliance will be a great place to work and we will be an employer of choice.

RESTRICTED This Vision is the start of an ongoing discussion – we will revisit and refine the vision to ensure it remains fit for purpose To deliver this vision will require a step change in the way we think and operate The scale means that no area of business will be left untouched We know we don’t have all the skills, but also know that some things can’t wait What next?
