WRTP/BIG STEP Works directly with employers and Training Coordinators to ensure that individuals are prepared for a career in the skilled trades. General Process for Employment in the Trades 1. Put together your trade portfolio with Driver’s License information, proof of high school graduation or GED, Social Security card, and work experience 2. Attend a BIG STEP orientation to learn more about specific trade application days and requirements, as well as preparation for tests 3. Pass test and get letter of eligibility or placed on a ranked waiting list 4. Find a contractor or get placed with a contractor through the JATC

Requirements for Working in the Trades Be able to work in extreme hot/cold temperatures Be comfortable with heights Be able to bend/lift Be able to get to various job sites throughout the day Have good math skills Be willing to learn Have good attendance Be dependable Be drug-free

Residential Preference Program To get RPP Certified, you must be: City of Milwaukee Resident AND Been laid off for more than 30 days OR Have worked less than 1,200 hours in the last 12 months OR Be underemployed

Residential Preference Program WRTP/BIG STEP staffs notary publics to provide certifications for the Residential Preference Program (RPP). Our Center of Excellence is a one stop shop for RPP Certifications, just call to make an appointment.
