Elements of 21 st Century Instruction Learner Attitude and Motivation to Learn Thoughtful Engagement Effective Use of TechnologyLife and Career Skills Subject-Area Content Three Rs Four Cs

Partnership for 21 st Century Skills

The four Cs are not new areas of focus for classrooms or even new goals for education. In a world in which information flows instantaneously to a global audience, never before have communication and collaboration been so vital. And creativity and critical thinking are paramount in a global economy that rewards innovation and in which routine tasks can be automated, but thinking cannot. The 4 Cs What do the 4 Cs help students do? Develop thinking routines or models Deepen their understanding of the content Increase retention Increase interest in the subject Be prepared for a future that we can only imagine!

This is not one more thing to do … Just change what you are already doing …

Collaboration What do you think of when you think of collaboration? – In your professional life – In the ‘real’ global world – In the lives of our students

Wiki A wiki is a Web site that allows users to add and update content on the site using their own Web browser. This is made possible by Wiki software that runs on the Web server. Wikis end up being created mainly by a collaborative effort of the site visitors. A great example of a large wiki is the Wikipedia, a free encyclopedia in many languages that anyone can edit. The term "wiki" comes from the Hawaiian phrase, "wiki wiki," which means "super fast." I guess if you have thousands of users adding content to a Web site on a regular basis, the site could grow "super fast."

Wikipedia = Global Collaboration The English version of Wikipedia has 4,616,677 content articles, and 33,942,865 pages in total. There have been 737,873,598 edits. There are 839,818 uploaded files. There are 22,711,508 registered users, including 1,386 administrators. (October 6, 2014) Editing Wikipedia What classroom projects could incorporate the use of Wikipedia?
