2 Wikis - definition From Blogs, Wikis and Podcasts:
a wiki is a collaborative webspace where anyone can add content or edit content that has already been published.

3 Wikipedia Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia that anyone can contribute to Goal to have information on the “sum of human knowledge” Knowledge of millions should be superior to the knowledge of one. Can be a great resource for research but should not be the only one.

4 One Major Benefit -Timeliness
Tsunami on just after midnight onDec 26, 2004. 9 hours late, a 76 word post was created. Within 24 hours the article about that event had been edited 400 times and increased to 3000 words. In 48 hours, 1,200 edits and 6,500 words.

5 Using a wiki Wikis are good for online communication and group collaboration Wikis are very simple to use There is no need to be able to write or understand HTML or any other program languages.

6 How you will use your class wiki
For communication – you will share your ideas, information, and creations with your class members and others on the Internet. For interaction and discussion – you will exchange information, ideas, and comments with your classmates. You will create something new that can be seen and/or used by others.

9 Wikispaces.com Offers three types of space: public, protected, and private Public– free and available for anyone to read, post and edit Protected –only members can edit, but anyone can read Private- just for your members only to read or edit

11 To join a wiki You have already been invited by Mrs. Sawick to join through your address, when you accept, you are a member.

For your project you will write your essay and post it onto the wiki space. You will each create individual pages for your writings. You will all participate in the discussion forum by commenting on two of your classmates’ writings, be sure to respond to anyone who comments on your work.
