SwAHEC offers opportunities for middle school, high school and college students to explore health care careers by supporting activities about healthcare careers as well as job-shadowing opportunities for students to experience, first-hand, what working in various healthcare careers will be like. Students are better able to decide if they want to pursue healthcare careers, and learn the practical and educational steps they must take to achieve their career goals. In the last three years, SwAHEC has supported 519 middle school, high school and college students in job-shadowing opportunities. Over those three years, 89% of the high school graduates went on to college or healthcare technical training, and 51% are pursuing healthcare related training.
