To coordinate information about global health education, training, research, funding, and exchange for the University of Washington campuses and local and international institutions and organizations. To connect undergraduate, graduate/professional students, faculty, staff, community leaders, individuals, and organizations with each other. To catalyze international, interprofessional collaboration and exchange. Manage the DGH funding and fieldwork opportunities, including the Global Health Immersion Program, the Global Health Clinical Elective, and the Global Opportunities (GO) Health and Thomas Francis, Jr., Fellowships. Coordinate travel preparation orientations for global health students. Provide information and referral to global health contacts, career networks, listservs, and websites. Advise individual students and work with global health student organizations. Coordinate DGH events, conferences, and special courses and seminars. Promote the work of our faculty, staff, students, and colleagues through community events and social media. 2 Programs Getting Connected Events
The Department of Global Health offers opportunities through the Global Health Resource Center to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students as well as residents and post-doctoral fellows. Since 2003, hundreds of students, residents, and researchers have participated in our international field experience and exchange programs in global health, ranging from clinical observation and research to public health practicum and community-based projects. We also coordinate: GHRC Advisory Board: A campus-wide group of faculty, staff, and students from across disciplines that meets monthly to advance global health collaborations. Medical Student International Opportunities Global Health Immersion Program (GHIP): An intensive 8-week program between the first and second year of medical school to deepen students’ understanding of the causes and impact of illness in developing countries. Global Health Clinical Elective (GHCE): An opportunity for fourth-year medical students to complete a 6-week clinical rotation at one of our partner institutions, ranging from large urban hospitals to remote community health posts. Fieldwork & Exchange: Find a program or experience abroad in the global health field and identify resources for travel preparation. Career Guidance: Connect with mentors and career contacts in global health as well as seek assistance with career development and job search. Referrals: Local and global health organizations and colleagues. The GHRC works with faculty, staff, and students to coordinate global health-related events on campus including, but not limited to: The Western Regional International Health Conference Principles of STD/HIV Research Course Intensive Course in Fundamentals of Implementation Science in Global Health World Health Cinema DGH Alumni Connect Faculty Research Seminars Global Health Career Week Various cross-campus and community-wide collaborations.
