Getting the Most Out of the Statistical Consultant Research Round Table 3: By David Newman

Before We Meet  Background Readings so we are talking the same language  Mixed Methods the Newman 3 Chapter  Ex Post Facto Research

What I Need From You  1. Your Title  Should be descriptive and match your research questions  2. Your Purpose  3. Your Research Questions  Should be aligned with the purpose  4. Bring potential instruments

What you should walk away with  From the title, purpose, and research question we can create the operational definitions.  Write the general and specific research hypotheses and models required to test your questions.

Past Problems Seen In Research  Design Issues in tracking participants  Not giving the patients unique identifying numbers  Only putting ID numbers on the first page  Technological differences  Instrument issues  Reliability and Validity (Does it match your sample)  Using different versions at different measurement points

Audience Examples  Give me:  Title  Purpose Statement  Research Question

What You Don’t Need Me For  Most of your basic program evaluation  Simple Research projects Now as of right now you might not be comfortable with SPSS or Data Entry. However, over the next year or two I will continue holding several workshops like this per semester to help you brush-up on your research skills

SPSS Basics  Opening SPSS  Entering Variable Names  Coding Data (Can be complicated)
