6 Certification Eligibility Application Options (PMP) Candidates applying for certification must satisfy the educational and experiential requirements for one of the following categories: Category 1 (4 yr degree) Category 2 (H.S. diploma)

8 Certification Examination Application Process Credentials for educational background Experience Verification Form(s) (4,500 or 7,500 hours of Project Management Experience) Completed Examination Application PM Training Verification (35 hours for PMP)

9 Category 1 Criteria (PMP) At the time of application, the candidate: 1. Holds a baccalaureate or equivalent university degree, and 2. Has a minimum of 4500 hours of project management experience within the five process groups (3 years of PM experience within the last 6 years) hours of Project Management training (Must coincide with Knowledge Areas)

10 Experience Verification Forms ( See PMI Certification Handbooks For PMP) The Experience Verification form is used by candidates to properly document and report project management experience One Experience Verification form must be submitted for each project within the eligible timeframe On the form, candidates must indicate the number of hours worked in each of the five process areas

11 Project Management Process Areas Project management process experience is organized into one or more of the following process areas: Initiating Planning Executing Monitoring & Controlling Closing

12 Category 2 Criteria At the time of application, the candidate: 1. Does not hold a baccalaureate or equivalent university degree but holds a high school diploma or equivalent secondary school credential, and 2. Has a minimum of 7500 hours of project management experience within the five process groups (5 years of PM experience within the last 8 years) hours of Project Management training (Must coincide with Knowledge Areas)

13 PMP/CAPM Certification Fees  Non PMI Members: $555  PMI Members: $405  Retest Fee (member): $275  Retest Fee (non-member): $375  PMI Membership Fee: $119 (+$10 app fee)

25 Eligibility Notification A PMP Examination Eligibility Letter will be ed to qualifying candidates upon receipt of application. Candidates must take the Certification Examination by the expiration date shown on the Eligibility Letter. (Typically, 12 months.)

36 Questions On The Exam  Knowledge, Application, Analysis  You must know how to apply the information you have learned.  Emphasis is on “process” (i.e. the Project Management Life Cycle)  questions are likely on the PMBOK processes / ITTO

37 Questions On The Exam  Situational  questions  e.g. “What would/should you do in this situation?”  Network diagrams often have more than one question  4-8 formula-type questions  5-8 Earned Value (EV) questions  Extraneous information  Blue sky questions/distracters (Say what?)  Half answers  Always choose the BEST answer

38 Taking The Exam Watch For Key Words! (Often italicized) For example: first, last, next, best, never, always, except, not, most likely, less likely, primary, initial, most, etc.

39 Taking The Exam (Suggestions)  Use the entire four hours  You will know if you passed immediately—just scroll down a bit  Ensure you get verification that you passed from the test center attendant

40 Go For It! (But have a plan…)  Decide ASAP when you will become a PMP  Schedule your exam  Study 2-4 days solid prior to taking the exam  Take the night before the exam off  Prayer can’t hurt  Pass the exam
