2 PMP® Exam Requirements
35 Contact Hours You will get these at the end of this course. Education Bachelors Degree 4500 hours of PM Experience Three years within the last eight years High School Graduate 7500 hours of PM Experience Five years within the last eight years One of the mandatory requirements is that the applicant must document at least 35 contact hours of formal project management education. Upon successful completion of this course, a 35 contact hours training certificate is given which is required to sit the PMP exam. This will be issued and is automatically approved by PMI. A four-year degree (bachelor’s or the global equivalent) and at least three years of project management experience, with 4,500 hours leading and directing projects and 35 hours of project management education. OR A secondary diploma (high school or the global equivalent) with at least five years of project management experience, with 7,500 hours leading and directing projects and 35 hours of project management education. If you do not meet the PMP eligibility requirements, you may want to look at the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® certification. Applying for the Exam Electronically or via slow mail PMI will mail/ an authorization letter for taking the exam Exam should be taken within a year of the application approval date Try to schedule exam in advance It is recommended to apply for the exam online. Once the application is submitted PMI typically takes between 5 to 7 business days to inform the candidates if their application is approved or if they need more information on the application. Once PMI approves the PMP exam application, the exam has to be taken within a year of the application approval date. Exam Format 200 Multiple choice questions Time – 4 hours 25 questions are pre-release questions (not included in score) Passing score is 106 out of 175 questions (approx 61 percent) Questions may be poorly worded Requires memorization of Inputs/Outputs/ Tools & Techniques There are 200 questions you need to answer in 4 hours. 25 pretest questions are randomly placed throughout the test to gather statistical information on the performance of these questions in order to determine whether they may be used on future examinations. These 25 pretest items are included in the 200-question examination, but will not be included in the pass/fail determination; candidates will be scored on 175 questions. Each question on this exam is worth exactly as much as the next. The very simple ones and the more complex ones are not weighted against each other; all are the same weight. All of the test questions are multiple choice and there are 4 options. There is only one correct answer. You are required to select one answer. You would have four choices for each questions, out of which you would have to select one. The “buttons” at the bottom of each question has a specific function. So, If you want to see the previous question, you click on ‘Previous’ button. After you select the answer, you click on ‘Next’ button to see the next question. If you are not sure about your answer, click ‘Mark’ button to review the question later. Click ‘Review’ button to review each question status and marked questions .

Exam Guidelines Since the PMP Exam format changed on August 2011, the exam is now set out as follows. 13% of the questions in the exam come from Project Initiation, 24% from planning, 30% from execution, 25% from project monitoring and controlling and 8% from project closing activities. Read PMP® Exam Prep Rita Mulcahy-7th edition Or any other book you may choose Use PMBOK® Guide 4th Edition as reference Know PMBOK® Guide terminology Form study groups Take practice tests Consult other materials / resources Beside the latest version of PMBOK (Project Management Body of knowledge) we are going to follow the latest version of Rita Mulcahy’s PMP exam preparation book. Answer question per PMI’s perspective Read all 4 choices first before answering Use elimination technique Watch for distracters in the questions Write down all formulae before exam Review questions, after completing exam Do not get frustrated during the exam It is important to remember to answer questions from PMI’s perspective and put PMI’s hat on when answering the questions Read all 4 choices first before answering the question Use elimination techniques to eliminate the choices that have nothing to do with the question being asked Watch for distracters in the questions Brain dump - Write down all formulae before the exam on the piece of paper that will be provided to you in the examination center just before you start your exam.
