South America is the fourth largest continent.

South America is shaped like a gigantic triangle that stretches from the equator to the southern tip of Cape Horn.

Up until 3 million years ago, South America was not connected to North America.

Unusual animals, such as the giant ant eater and the giant tortoise of the Galapagos Island, evolved in isolation there

South America has everything from tropical rain forest, to dry deserts, to rolling grasslands. It also has some of the world’s most spectacular waterfalls, lakes, and islands
