 Identifying the district’s mission and the organization’s vision.  Identify the qualities of a great team.  Identify who is on the area and division team and discuss their responsibilities and expectations.  Determine how to make area and division council meetings effective and fun.  Motivate team members.  Develop future leaders. 1 Session Objectives

6 The Area Council  Promotes achievement of Competent Communicator (CC) and Advanced Communicator (AC) awards.  Encourages clubs to achieve in the Distinguished Club Program.  Helps the area governor in coordinating and conducting area speech contests. 7 The Area Council  Ensures club dues renewals submitted on time.  Brings all clubs up to a level of 20 or more members.  Directs and coordinates the marketing strategies and activities necessary to achieve area growth objectives. Assistant area governor marketing

10 The Division Council Assistant area governor education and training  Promotes achievement of Competent Communicator (CC) and Advanced Communicator (AC) awards.  Ensures that area governors visit clubs at least twice during the year, submitting online reports by October 31 and April 30.  Works with area governors to promote Distinguished Club Program achievement.  Promotes TI educational programs to improve club quality.  Helps the division governor with educational programs at division council meetings.  Assists the division governor in coordinating, planning and directing division speech contests.

The Division Council  Strives to achieve Distinguished Division club growth goals: Assistant division governor marketing  At a minimum the division should have no club loss (i.e., if the division began the year with 15 clubs, it should end the year with 15 clubs).  Every division should strive for a net growth of at least on club. 11

12 The Division Council  Helps areas achieve distinguished area status by assisting area governors in achievement of Distinguished Area Program goals related to membership: Assistant division governor marketing  Ensures club dues renewals are submitted on time.  Ensures clubs are at 20-plus membership.  Directs and coordinates the marketing strategies.  Directs membership development and retention programs.  Coordinates rescue of weak clubs.  Works with lt. governor marketing to develop a strong marketing program.

 Focus on area and division goals.  Have an agenda.  Each member of the council should report on progress.  Recognize the achievements of your council members.  Include an educational session to pique interest.  Get members involved in your meeting. Make Council Meetings Effective and Fun 13

 It is important to understand that you and your fellow team members : Progress toward goals in the Distinguished Area Program Must maintain high ethical standards  Communications and publications conducted at Toastmasters events must be of highest caliber.  Team members must act in a responsible manner.  TI policy prohibits any form of harassment.  Identify experienced Toastmasters in your area or division.  Note members who show promise or interest.  Determine talents and how they can contribute to achieving goals.  Continually look to expand resources.  Identify potential leaders.  Share your resources with council members and Toastmasters in your area or division.  Don’t be afraid to ask club members for help!
