JOBS FOR HISTORY NERDS PROFESSIONAL HISTORIAN

HISTORIAN Someone who is an authority on history and who studies it and writes about it. A writer, student, or scholar of history. Someone who writes or compiles a chronological record of events; a chronicler.

GEOGRAPHER A person who specializes in geographical research, delineation, and study. Someone who scientifically studies the surface of the earth, including such aspects as its climate, topography, vegetation, and population; as well as, the effects on the earth’s surface of human activities.

ARCHAEOLOGIST A professional scholar who studies and reconstructs the human past through its physical remains An archaeologist’s work involves the scientific finding, collecting, cleaning, sorting, identifying, and measuring of objects found in or on the earth or sea. The motive is to record and interpret ancient cultures rather than collect and display artifacts for profit.

ANTHROPOLOGIST Someone who pursues the science of anthropology; a student of mankind. Anthropology: the science that deals with the study of human culture and evolution. Try to figure out how the pieces of man and his history fit together.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A PROFESSIONAL HISTORIAN? HISTORIAN: the image of a person at a desk, piled with books and papers, typing on a computer. ARCHAEOLOGIST: in shorts and a dirty t-shirt, outside on their knees with tools all around. GEOGRAPHER: “weatherman”, lots of graphs and charts pinned to the walls. ANTHROPOLOGIST: fun to talk to because they are always making comparisons to what they see with similar occurrences in other lands. WHICH ONE BEST DESCRIBES YOU????
