1 + Human Species: Evolution and Adaptation Timeline SUMMATIVE Physical/Biological Anthropology: Origin of Human Species – Timeline Summative Learning Goal: I can create a visual representation and presentation on an aspect of the Human Evolutionary Timeline. Success Criteria: I can find credible research aspects of a category of the human species timeline and adaptations (according to the requirements) and put my sources into a works cited I can create a written and visual representation of the category my group was assigned (PowerPoint/Prezi AND Poster for the Classroom) I can present my findings to the class I can create and replicate an artifact that is representative of the species I researched

2 + You will be assigned one category from the hominid evolutionary timeline. You will be working in groups of 3 to complete a presentation of one component of the evolutionary timeline that will be posted in the classroom. You will have 2 class periods to work on this summative. Much of your work will have to be done on your own time. Your presentation MUST be in the form of a PowerPoint/Prezi, poster, verbal explanation, pictures and can include short video clips. You can decide how to organize your own presentation, but a requirement is that you include a visual and verbal explanation as well as a creative poster with the necessary information that can be posted in the class creating a complete timeline.

3 + Your group must include the following information in your visual and verbal presentation (poster and PowerPoint): 1. Name of the category/species you were assigned 2. When and where the species existed 3. Explain what forensic evidence was found for this species – what evidence did anthropologists discover? 4. An explanation/description of the typical climate and landscape of the time when this species existed 5. Describe important physical characteristics - what they looked like 6. A visual representation of what the species looked like – photos, drawings, videos 7. Cultural aspects that were prominent with this species (art, communication, family, language, weapons…) – if applicable 8. Explanation of the physical and cultural adaptations that occurred from the previous categories of species – what aspects of the species adapted and evolved? 9. You must source all of your work – include the details of where you got all of your information from for both written and visual (pictures, videos) sources 10. You must re-create an artifact of your choice that represents this species (i.e. fossil, skull, cultural artifact, representation of the environment, weapons, tools…).

4 + You do not have to hand in a formal written report. You will be marked on the information from your presentation. Make sure to hand in a works cited with your presentation. Make sure to have: a visual/verbal presentation, a poster with your vital visual and written information and also a model of your artifact.
