Our Students Demographics - Key facts Majority of students are from Islington, Hackney, Haringey, Camden, Tower Hamlets. of pupils gained 5+ GCSEs including Maths and English which is an improving picture (2009) 44% is amongst the highest ranked borough in terms of the progress pupils made (“value added”) since leaving primary school. Islington of the borough’s children are in families in receipt of means- tested benefits and 40+% are in workless households 47%45% is the 4th most deprived London Borough and the 8th most deprived in the country. and of those unemployed have been out of work for more than 6 months Unemployment circa 11% (Greater London 9%) Those occupying social housing exhibit increasingly severe multiple disadvantages

Our Students 79% from widening participation postcodes 63% in receipt of EMAs 71% students from BME Communities young learners studying skills for independent living, work skills and progression courses in craft and woodwork. 60 Students aged 16-19

History of HE at the College Early 1990s HNC and HNDs. Small number of students indirectly funded through the University of North London and directly funded from FEFC. End of 1990s. Successful bids for a number of HNC/D programmes directly funded from HEFCE. FEFC funding transferred to HEFCE Funding moved to indirect funding through the University of North London and London Guildhall University. Supported by City University London Foundation Degree Pilot awarded by City University London, supported by Queen Mary, University of London. Increase in the number of FDs through successful ASN bids and use of HNC/D numbers for FDs. PGCEs funded through, and awarded by, the Institute of Education, University of London 2010/11. Three HNC/D programmes. Part time. and an OU FD.

HE Strategy Expand the HE portfolio. Meet the requirements of employers Build up the FD offer. Provide an escalator of opportunity from entry level to level 4/5. Continue to develop partnerships with our university partners. Informed by our teaching and learning objectives of providing successful outcomes for all our learners.

2011/12 on. Develop portfolio of courses in partnership with existing partners. Enter the present bidding round for both FDs and HNDs. Develop staff to enable students to continue to get the best possible educational experience. Develop governance of HE to enable expansion and FDAP. Seconded post from University College London to support this. Work with partner universities and other FE college’s to encourage students to complete NSS and linked to this KIS. Financial viability. Keep a close interest in developments at regional and national level.
