Registration Packet 4-year IB Curriculum Guide IB World School Newsletter IB School Profile Registration Form **SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENT** SHS extras (welcome, etc.) You may want to take out a pen or pencil and you can complete it as we go.

Seminole High School - Pre-IB Program (Grades 9 and 10) Accelerated honors program Middle school to college in two years Increased efforts to obtain comparable grades Dedicate 30 minutes per academic subject per night. Homework may take 15 minutes – that leaves 15 minutes to STUDY. IB raises the bar! Our students are Lifetime Learners! Welcome to the Pre-IB program. In grades 9 and 10, we’ll move you from middle school to college. Won’t be easy. Will need to put forth more effort to obtain the same results. If you take away one thing from this evening, know that you will be expected to STUDY. This is a new term to many of you. Homework is material assigned by a teacher with a specific due date and is often a part of your grade. Homework typically repeats what you learned in school to help reinforce concepts. Studying is about learning on your own time, without the guidance of a teacher. Studying involves a commitment to actually learning the key concepts that some homework assignments overlook. Studying includes re-reading unclear sections in the textbook making and reviewing flashcards taking notes from textbook reading creating study guides from textbook and lecture notes The initiative involved in taking control of your own study patterns will help you become independent learners, preparing you for college and beyond.

Differences between Middle School and High School To pass to the next grade (10th) you have to have 6 credits You need 26 required credits to graduate, a 2.0 and passing FCAT/EOC exams (IB requires 3.0 GPA) Each “F” grade requires a “do it over” for grade replacement/credit Credit attachment is based on grade AND attendance GPA is cumulative by semester (Transcript) Middle School: No credits for progression To pass to the next grade you have to have a 2.0 GPA Summer school forgives all “F” grades Attendance does not take away credit No graduation requirements GPA is not cumulative year to year

Seminole High School - Pre-IB Grade 9 Develop study skills and practice good study habits Organize a weekly study schedule and stick to it Keep grades up for scholarship opportunities and college admission Get involved in one extracurricular activity that genuinely interests you Begin college and career exploration Prepare and register for the PSAT as a practice SAT Welcome to the Pre-IB program.
