Complete your product analysis if not finished Next lesson we will be looking at some decoration techniques. - Homework Use your mood board to identify and begin to sketch out some simple motifs that you could use to produce decoration samples next lesson (20minutes)

Your Design brief is asking you to design a range of book bags for John Lewis. In industry when Designers are asked to produce designs for a specific company they carry out a company profile. Your homework is to carry out a company profile on John Lewis. Your profile could include: -Company History -Who started the company and when did is start? -Size of the company?( how many stores) -How much money do they make? -Who is the target audience? -What do they sell? -What designers do they feature in their stores? -Price range for accessories? -Do they have a logo? -Do they have internet shopping? -Do they support and charity, environmental or social issues?

Evaluate the decoration techniques you have sampled. Include : Name of decoration method What went well? What looks good? What didn’t go so well? What doesn’t look so good? Which do you think you will use in your designs? Due_____________

Although at school we do have some materials for your to use they will not necessarily be the correct colour or style for your project. Your homework is to shop around for fabrics, trims, beads, sequins which you would like to use to produce your Vintage patchwork bag. Shops will sometimes let you buy small samples on fabrics for a small fee. Alternatively you could buy ¼ of a meter which should be enough. You may however want 2 or three different styles so be sure to ask how much it would be before buying. EBAY is a great place to get scraps of fabrics. Although you cant always choose the selection of fabrics sent you can often request a certain colour. Two EBAY sellers I have used successfully in the past are: prettyhandwork tinkers-cove Due_____________

By now you should have produced up to four Design ideas which reflect the theme ‘Vintage patchwork’ Your homework is to make sure that each design includes the following: - Overall sketch of design -Exploded vies of decoration detail -Annotation which explains the decoration methods used -Colour -Samples of fabric Due_____________

Over the course of the project we have looked at many ways of decorating fabric. Your Homework is to produce a step by step revision resource for one of these techniques. Choose from: -Applique -Reverse applique -Stitch and rip -Patchwork -Sublimation printing -Hand embroidery -Freehand machine embroidery -Screen printing -Batik This can be done in any way you like on either A3 or A4 Due_____________

Give your opinion on there work, do you like it? What don’t you like? Due_____________

By now you should have completed your Vintage patchwork bag. Your homework is to evaluate the success of your project. Use the evaluation sheets provided to evaluate your work. Ask other people what there opinions are of your product. Possible questions. Do you like the design? How much would you pay for it? What would you use it for ? Do you want to change anything? Are there any negatives? Due_____________
