Word Order: Placement of Adjectives REALIDADES 1 Capítulo 1B – Apuntes #3 Word Order: Placement of Adjectives

*In English, the adjective is placed BEFORE the noun being described: the artistic girl the daring boy the intelligent teacher the funny friend *In Spanish, the adjective is placed AFTER the noun being described: la chica artística el chico atrevido la profesora inteligente el amigo gracioso

*Here’s a simple pattern you can follow when writing a sentence in Spanish: INDEFINITE ARTICLE + NOUN SUBJECT VERB ADJECTIVE 1. Margarita es una chica muy artística. 2. Pablo es un estudiante inteligente. 3. La Sra. Ortiz es una profesora muy buena. 4. La chica es una estudiante muy estudiosa. 5. Yo soy un chico desordenado

To make negative statements, place NO before the verb: *Remember: To make negative statements, place NO before the verb: modelo: 1. Margarita no es una chica muy ordenada. 2. Yo no soy un estudiante perezoso.

*Note one exception: The word bueno/buena is a special adjective that has two meanings depending on the position before or after the noun: Before the noun it means good (someone you know well): Ella es una buena amiga She is a good friend. After the noun it means kind (someone that is good and kind): She is a kind friend. She is a friend that is kind. Ella es una amiga buena.

1. Arturo es un chico atrevido y serio. Le gusta mucho esquiar. Actividad #20: *You will hear a description of Arturo, Marta, and Belinda. Write what you hear to the right (English) & translate to the left (Spanish): 1. Arturo es un chico atrevido y serio. Le gusta mucho esquiar. 2.
