Why we ask you to volunteer Helping your community through volunteer efforts Earning community service requirements for the Bright Futures Scholarship 100,75,30 Colleges want students with community involvement Class of 2014 & 2015 required 75 Hours to graduate Class of 2016 & 2017 required 100 Hours to graduate 75 Hours =.5 credit course Hours =.5 credit course Hours maximum amount of credit pass/fail (Elective Credit)

Who and When can I volunteer? Community service hours must be served with a non-profit organization for which the student receives no monetary compensation or A for-profit agency which has an established volunteer program, (i.e. a candy stripe volunteer program at a hospital.) Volunteering must be done after school hours Students may not volunteer more than 8 hours per day

When to turn in log sheets Community service log sheet(s) will be turned into the guidance secretary Mrs. White when completed* Mrs. White will process log sheets after 75, *100 or 150 hours have been served *May turn 100 Hours for Florida Academic Scholar Award. Student must have a 3.5 GPA

What qualifies for community service hours? Most volunteer opportunities at a non- profit, faith-based, or government entity. Volunteer with church outside of religious services such as nursery, office, community outreach, etc. Participating with team, club, or band in a community service project or outreach program when attendance is not mandatory. Volunteering at an ALF, Nursing Home, or Hospital conducting enrichment & entertaining. Coaching, Scorekeeper, referee for a little league team. Volunteering after school at a school.

What DOES NOT qualify for community service hours? Volunteer hours before graduating 8 th grade Volunteering at a non-profit agency to replace a paid staff member. Internships with a for-profit business Helping at a parent’s business without pay. Church participation during religious services (such as alter server, choir, band, acolyte, etc.) Church mission camp, teaching bible studies, vacation bible school. School sponsored sports. Playing as a member on a community sports team. Any required participation to be a member of a team, club, group, or band. Any political campaigns of any kind Meetings for clubs, scouts, 4-H, etc. Teacher's Aid during school hours.
