Immersion at Judgemeadow An overview MBU visited Canada in 2002 to see French Immersion taking place in Canadian schools. Immersion French introduced (1 mixed ability group in year 7) in year 7 mixed ability group every year since. Pupils have their normal allocation of 3 French lessons per week taught by their form tutor. In addition, form time, PHSE and their ICT lessons are conducted in the Target Language. Pupils take their French GCSE in year 9. They are given the opportunity to study A/S French in year 10 and 11.

HMI Standards in the immersion French lesson were very high across all skill areas and pupils were achieving very well. In particular, pupils were using accurately a much wider range of vocabulary and structure than is usual. Anecdotal evidence TES Their language comes alive when faced with their counterparts in a French College by video link. They fluently describe themselves, their family and their hobbies using an accent and language that a GCSE examiner would be proud of.
