Bodies of Water There are many waterways in Washington, D.C. The Potomac River is the main body of water, and it has many tributaries. They include: Anacostia River Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Rock Creek

Tourist Attractions: International Spy Museum A popular tourist attraction in Washington, D.C. is the Spy Museum. It features exhibits like School for Spies, Spies Among Us, and Weapons of Mass Disruption. At the Spy Museum, you can also learn about undercover spies and their missions. The museum also holds monthly interviews with ex-spies, so they can share their adventures.

Tourist Attractions: Air and Space Museum The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum is home to the worlds largest collection of space and aircrafts. Currently, over 50,000 items are on display. When you visit, there are always shows and movies to enjoy.

Tourist Attractions: National Aquarium The National Aquarium holds over 200 species of animals from all over the world. There are also galleries including: American Freshwater Ecosystems Amphibians Amazon River Basin

Tourist Attractions: Lincoln Memorial The Lincoln Memorial is dedicated to Abraham Lincoln, the 16 th President of the United States. The Lincoln Memorial, designed by Henry Bacon was built in It is the site of many famous gatherings and protests, including Martin Luther King’s I Have A Dream speech. The Lincoln Memorial is 19 feet high and weighs 175 tons. Inside the memorial are carved inscriptions of Lincolns Gettysburg Address and Second Inaugural Address.

Tourist Attractions: National Archives Created in 1934, The National Archives is known as the nations’ record-keeper. Important, legal documents and records in American business history are preserved there. Records are always available to the public. Some historical documents kept at the National Archives include: Declaration of Independence Bill of Rights Constitution

Holidays Washington, D.C. celebrates the same holidays as us with the exception of Cherry Blossom Day. In 1912, Japan gave Washington, D.C. a gift of 3,000 Cherry Blossom trees that were planted around the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park. Next year, the 100 th Anniversary of Cherry Blossom Day will be celebrated.

Sports The Washington D.C region is home to the sports venues The Verizon Center, RFK Stadium, FedEx Field, and Nationals Park. Capitol Building The United States Capitol located in Washington, D.C. is the summit of the nation’s legislature. The Capitol is where the two houses of Congress, the Senate and the House of Representatives, meet.

Washington Monument As one of the most famous structures in Washington, D.C., the Washington Monument was built in honor of George Washington, the countries first President. The Monument stands at about 555 feet. It offers a view of 30 miles. The Washington Monument was finished on December 6, 1884.

The White House The current President of the United States, Barack Obama, lives in the White house in Washington D.C. Presidents have been living in the White House since The East Wing of the White House is where the family lives, and the West Wing is where the President conducts his business.

Democracy Washington, D.C. is part of the United states, so it has a Representative Democracy. This means there are elected officials to represent the district. The mayor of Washington, D.C. is Vincent C. Gray.
