3 Geographical Position The District is situated on the north bank of the Potomac river and is bordered by the states of Virginia to the southwest and Maryland to the other sides. Population 601.723 Area 177.0 km 2

4 Climate Washington is located in the humid subtropical climate zone. Spring and fall are warm, while winter is cool. Summers are hot and humid. The highest recorded temperature was 41 °C on July 20, 1930, and August 6, 1918, while the lowest recorded temperature was − 26 °C on February 11, 1899, during the Great Blizzard.

5 Economy Washington has a growing economy with an increasing percentage of professional and business service jobs. Washington became the leader in foreign real estate investment. Washington has the third-largest downtown in the United States in terms of commercial office space, directly behind New York City and Chicago.

6 Sights of the City The capital holds a great number of the world famous landmarks including the U.S. Capitol, the White House, the Smithsonian Institution, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and other. This is the one of the most historically rich areas in the country.

7 United States Capitol The United States Capitol Building includes the meeting chambers of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The building is located on Capitol Hill on the eastern end of the National Mall.
