2 WASHINGTON D.C. Is the capital of the USA
It’s located between Maryland and Virginia on the north bank of the Potomac River "D.C." stands for the District of Columbia, the federal district. The city is named after George Washington, military leader of the American Revolution and the first President of the United States.

3 There are many sights to be seen in Washington D.C.

4 JEFFERSON MEMORIAL It’s dedicated to Thomas Jefferson, the third US president and one of founding fathers, author of the Declaration of independence. The memorial is modelled after Rome’s Pantheon

5 LINCOLN MEMORIAL The Lincoln memorial is a monument honoring the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. The memorial is often used as a gathering place for protests and political rallies. The most famous was the March of Washington in 1963, when Martin Luther King delivered his famous speech 'I have a dream' from the Lincoln Memorial.

6 WASHINGTON MONUMENT It was built in honor of the first President of the United States, George Washington. The Washington Monument is located at the National Mall. An elevator brings you to the observatory at the top of the obelisk from where you have a magnificent view over all of Washington National mall -long strip of green surrounded by museums and monuments. It stretches from the Lincoln Memorial to the US Capitol.

7 WHITE HOUSE The White House has been the official residence of every President of the United States with the exception of George Washington. The White House has a fascinating history. The main building was burned by the British in 1814 during the War of Afterward, when the building was being restored, the smoke-stained gray stone walls were painted white. The name “White House,” however, was not used officially until President Theodore Roosevelt. Before that, the building was known variously as the “President's Palace,” the “President's House,” and the “Executive Mansion.”

8 THE OVAL OFFICE is the official office of the President of the United States

9 US CAPITOL The US Capitol houses the legislative branch of the American government. The Senate occupies the building's north wing and the House of representatives is housed in the south wing.

10 PENTAGON The Pentagon is the headquarters of the US Department of defence, located in Arlington County, Virginia On September , exactly 60 years after it was built, hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the western side of the Pentagon, killing 189 people, including five hijackers, 59 others aboard the plane, and 125 working in the building.

11 ARLINGTON CEMETARY is a national military cemetary
More than 300,000 people are buried there among famous and distinguished people buried in the cemetery are for example presidents Taft and J.F.Kennedy

12 NATIONAL CATHEDRAL Officially named the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, is a cathedral of the Episcopal Church. Of neogothic design, it is the sixth largest cathedral in the world and the second largest in the United States.
