RESOURCE DATA MANAGEMENT LOOKING TO THE FUTURE: ENERGY

AGENDA Company Overview The Three I’s Innovation Integration Inspiration Energy Saving Examples Summary www.resourcedm.com

COMPANY OVERVIEW www.resourcedm.com Formed in 2000 Based in Glasgow, Scotland Annual turnover approx $15M Employ 100 staff in the UK Over 300 customers around the world RDM owned Manufacturing subsidiary Software Development subsidiary in Delhi, India Global monitoring based in Glasgow www.resourcedm.com

INNOVATION www.resourcedm.com

INNOVATION Benchmark Minimum Standards www.resourcedm.com Future proofed systems whilst being legacy equipment compatible Enables integration to existing systems and equipment to avoid having to fit replacements. Open communications IP protocol Freedom to choose parts of the system from different sources Slide 6 Easier to integrate Easier to adapt to future innovations Web based, browser accessed Smart phone/Tablet No proprietary access software required No annual licence fees Global, multi point accessibility www.resourcedm.com

“I like the ease of getting into the system “I like the ease of getting into the system. I can take a look at the stores that have RDM controls in them and look at their data from my phone. I could actually make a set-point adjustment to a thermostat from my phone if I need to. It’s all Web-based” Wally Lindeman, FM Manager, Lund’s Food Holding

INTEGRATION www.resourcedm.com By gaining visibility of everything that is using energy including water, you can use the data from different systems to influence operational actions For example sharing HVAC Humidity data to influence trim heater control Integration allows the modifying of control strategies, adding new control strategies on top of existing controls based on a larger number of existing data points This opens up the application of efficient control strategies where there were none System visibility helps to locate and identify problem areas There are many systems operating in isolation, often conflicting with other systems. The conflict only showing up in the utility bills or poor functionality With real time monitoring and control you can maintain an automatic tight grip on the efficiency levels achieved If you wait until the main utility meter has recorded the higher energy consumption you have already lost the savings. All operating in the background 24/7/365 and visible locally and remotely for maintenance purposes. www.resourcedm.com

Integration of renewables data www.resourcedm.com

INSPIRATION www.resourcedm.com

INSPIRATION Inspired Integration—what to do with the data? Once connected, the previously standalone equipment can offer up to the control and monitoring systems their valuable logged historical data This “before” data has been and is continuing to be used to evaluate various trials of new gases, new valves, parameter change trials, variable speed drive applications, any new system of operation is able to be validated before/during/after, every action is logged, every reaction recorded in real time almost always without the need for repetitive time consuming and expensive site visits. This speeds up the initiative validation process, provides the backup data to tick all the boxes required by finance, risks to stock and trading, engineering and maintenance . www.resourcedm.com

ENERGY SAVING EXAMPLES www.resourcedm.com

TRIM HEATER CONTROL Simple and generally the easiest, quickest, energy reduction win that is possible without switching it off altogether www.resourcedm.com

Is it worth doing---YES! The energy and financial savings involved for a typical supermarket with 30 cases is: Assuming 1kw trim heater per case = Typical minimum savings pa with trim heater control of 50% = 15kw x 24 x 365 = At 8p per kwh this is an annual saving of 400 stores produce an annual saving of 30kw standing load 131400kwh £10,512 per store £4.2 million. Is it worth doing---YES! How many extra frozen pizzas do you need to sell to add £4.2 million profit to the bottom line? How do we know it is still working—should we maintain these savings we are counting on? The solution is to monitor that the trim heater energy reduction is not faltering or failed by integrating the data back into the supervisory system in real time. www.resourcedm.com

Benefits of Integration Load shedding opportunities are not easy in a retail environment even more so on food refrigeration A networked integrated system opens up load shedding possibilities to switch off or reduce the trim heater loads on a store by store basis or globally across the estate. Using the previous example the controlled and reduced trim heater load of 15kw per store x 400 stores there is a potential to shed 6 Megawatts simultaneously off the grid. Valuable in terms of Triad capacity charge reduction in the winter period. Due to thermal inertia the switching off of the trims for short periods will generally go unnoticed in the store, but it is dependent on case type and store environmental conditions. www.resourcedm.com

We can detect non usage and flag maintenance warnings. NIGHT BLINDS Following the capital outlay of installing night blinds: Are your night blinds being used correctly…? Do we wait for the bad surprise in the energy bill? We can detect non usage and flag maintenance warnings. www.resourcedm.com

NIGHT BLINDS USAGE DETECTION www.resourcedm.com

Summary www.resourcedm.com We need to have sight of every energy consuming element. If it is unseen it cannot be constantly monitored and controlled for maximum sustained efficiency. We can expand the existing refrigeration network to connect to HVAC, Lighting, Metering as a minimum. This gives visibility and opens up integrated control and novel application possibilities. Information and communications technology is a key enabler to energy efficiency and sustainability. www.resourcedm.com
