Are You Here for Chemistry with Foote? Yes? Great! Take a seat anywhere and please sign in… pens on first desk if you need one.

Who is Ms Foote? Biochemistry major Lehigh University One year Leukemia research at CHOP This is my seventh year teaching at NBC Assistant varsity ladies lacrosse coach Very bad at checking voic sorry Decent at Have a website on the schools page where I post information for the classes Borderline with PowerGrade (but getting better all the time)

What Does Your Student need for my class? Binder (3 ring, at least 1) NO exceptions! Writing utensil (labs = blue or black pen only) BOUND notebook for labs (i.e. a composition book) – NO EXCEPTIONS –We have already checked for these, thank you. Access to a scientific calculator; preferably everyday in class, but if not, at least for homework and then all of second semester. Appropriate clothes, especially for LAB. Complete homework.

How Are Your Students Graded? This class operates by points All assignments will be awarded points based upon the amount of work/effort required A rubric will be provided for labs and projects in advance I try to update Power Grade at least once a week (I did today), however, some weeks are worse than others … please bear with me. Every quarter will have at least ONE opportunity for extra credit Expect your student to have homework every night (so far this has not been the case)

Miscellaneous Details ALL school RULES apply, so students are encouraged to read their handbook (in agenda books) and prepare to be held accountable. Larger assignments (tests, projects, take home quizzes) take longer for me to grade and therefore will NOT be graded by the next morning… I do the best I can. Pop quizzes ARE an option I am available for help after school, but I do request a heads up

Non-Newtonian Fluid Day October 8 th (Friday before Columbus day long weekend) Cornstarch + water baby pool o fun! We rent a cement mixer, borrow a baby pool, and buy over 300 lbs of cornstarch The Chemistry department is asking for $1 donation per student to cover the above costs –We need about 1 lb of cornstarch per student

Where does your student go from here? Physics –AP B or Lab Environmental Science –New course this year- helps satisfy graduation requirements AP Biology or AP Chemistry –Usually just Honors Chemistry students, but possible from Chemistry Keep in mind, all students need 3 years of science, 2 physical and 1 biological before they can graduate…

How can YOU help? Talk to your student about what they are learning Try to stay positive about Chemistry (even if you arent a big fan) Let me know if you hear any complaints or concerns about me personally or the class Keep me in the loop if something is going on in your students life and might affect learning (I dont need details, just would appreciate a heads up) THANK YOU for all you do!
