Program Parternership Swim New Brunswick AGM Project Partners

Partnership Overview Athletics Canada & Athletics New Brunswick have partnered with Swimming New Brunswick to provide instructor training and the opportunity for swim clubs to incorporate Run, Jump, Throw programming into regular swim programs as a means to offer enhanced development of physical literacy for their participants, complimentary to in pool training offered by swim clubs.

What is Athletics Canada’s primary first contact program – Designed for participants 7-12 years of age – Provides a fun and active learning environment – Emphasis on individual improvement and positive reinforcement – Uses track and field inspired activities to develops the skills of running, jumping and throwing in age/stage appropriate progressions – Develops physical literacy and provides improvement in physical and emotional well-being

Quick Facts 100,000+ participants annually More than 3500 instructors trained since 2003 Can be delivered in any environment Lesson plans include adaptions for all athletes with disabilities Empirically validated to improve physical literacy Can be delivered by clubs, schools and other groups Equipment bags are available for purchase directly from Athletics Canada

Partnership Overview Provide RJT instructor training to coaches as part of development camps in each region Training customized to focus on participants 9-12 years old, introduction of proper warm-up routines, proper mechanics Training to be delivered across two dev camps Following training, clubs with trained instructors will have option to become official delivery partners, gain access to ongoing support and resource portal to be launched January 2015 Option for instructors to be upgraded to LFs in year 2

Training Overview Development Camp #1 – Instructor training, primarily in gym to introduce and practice proper movement patterns – Observation of minute session led by Athletics New Brunswick Instructors – Explanation/review of lesson plans Development Camp #2 – Athletics New Brunswick Instructors present to observe session delivery – Group review and debrief of experiences delivering program thus far RJT Instructor Training is NCCP approved, training is eligible for 5 professional development credits

Club Opportunity Be recognized as official Run, Jump, Throw Delivery Partner by Athletics Canada – ability to offer RJT as an integrated or standalone program Phone/Skype mentorship support and access to on-line community of practice for instructors following training Access to on-line web portal with additional resources – January 2015 Member pricing on equipment bag, other materials

Delivery Partner Requirements Must use trained instructors Register program with Athletics Canada through Swim New Brunswick Provide proof of insurance Provide list of all participants with contact information for one-time follow-up by Athletics Canada – feedback survey (results shared); information about local programs, partner offers, option to join mailing list Pay annual licencing fee
