3 TSLP Background: 2005 summer of violence spurred discussion on sport as intervention Delivered as a partnership program Program partners are: City of Toronto YMCA Toronto District School Board Funded by in-kind donations from many supporting partners and cash donations from Jump Start and theToronto Foundation Supporting Partners are: Lifesaving Society of Ontario Coaches Association of Ontario Tennis Canada Basketball Ontario Soccer Ontario

5 TSLP Overview: Sport-based LEADERSHIP program that runs year round allowing participants to achieve Nationally recognized certifications and assist with gaining employment Students receive coaching and aquatic certification and training at no cost in a variety of sport streams that may lead to employment opportunities Many programs to choose from sport, aquatic, adapted and supporting streams

6 What to expect from the program:
Classroom style learning mixed with active learning Opportunity to participate in full day & weekend certification courses TTC tickets will be provided to get participants to and from courses Job Readiness info session to assist in summer job hunt Graduation that celebrates achievements in the program Many s, texts and phone call as reminders of courses & events

Who are we looking for? Students enrolled in either TDBS or TCDSB secondary schools Youth who are in need of financial assistance Students who are: COMMITTED DEDICATED AMBITIOUS MOTIVATED and want to become leaders in life! Age Requirements: Must be 16 years old by December 16, 2017 (proof of age required)

10 TSLP Program Overview Sport Stream: Aquatics Stream:
Skating, Tennis, Basketball, Soccer, Hockey Aquatics Stream: Wading Pools, NL, Swim Instructor, Aquafitness Inst. Supporting Streams: Adapted Stream: Training to be an integration worker and/or an adapted leader Job Skill Components: Job Day: An opportunity for you to attend a day where we will ensure that you have correctly applied for City of Toronto Jjbs, prepare you for an interview and actually conduct a City of Toronto interview.  If you are successful, we may even proceed with preparing all your hiring  documentation.

12 100 % Attendance is required for the following Aquatic streams:
BRONZE MEDALLION, BRONZE CROSS, NL SWIM INSTRUCTOR WADING POOL ATTENDANT STANDARD FIRST AID with CRP C AQUAFIT INSTRUCOTRS Please note that NO exceptions will be made (ex. illness, prom, school extracurricular, weddings, etc) Participants who arrive LATE for any sessions WILL NOT be allowed entry and will be asked to leave the course

14 Graduation How do I graduate from TSLP?
Complete a minimum of three courses – one of which must be the technical course – for example NCCP Basketball Or Complete all of the courses for that stream: For example for the Aquafit stream complete the aquafit course and the Standard First Aid Course

Think of all the program options available to you and make a final decision as to which program you would like to do. Have a first choice and second choice in mind.

Complete the online registration form You can get a card with the link to the registration form today.

Check to see if you have this form. All students under 19 years of age must have the form signed by a parent or guardian.

Complete and submit the information card provided to you. If you haven’t registered already, please pick up the registration link info card. For those interested in programs that require screening sessions and have yet to sign up, you can sign up for dates now. Ask us any questions that you may have about the programs.
