3 Course outcomes Identify your role and responsibilities as a Leader
Have an awareness of safety issues when working in a changing environment Organise and run, safe athletics activities using adapted athletics equipment.

4 Course outcomes Use effective instruction and demonstration relating to the activity Contribute to the effective teamwork of running the activities Identify the principles of athlete centred delivery Identify methods to challenge inappropriate behaviour.

5 Session reflection – group work
What did the Supervising Coach and Leader do before the warm up? What did the ‘Leader’ do before and during the activity? Safety issues - how were they dealt with by the Leader? What should happen after the athletes have gone home?

6 BEFORE SESSION Briefed leader with activity card
Identified the outcome for the session Discussed any organisational issues Identified safety issues Identified what to tell the athletes Agreed the roles that each would play Agreed to have a brief review at the end.

7 DURING Gave clear, audible instructions and explanations of what was to be done Checked athletes understood by asking a specific question Moved around the group and watched what was happening Listened to what anyone said Kept checking for safety Built rapport.

8 SAFETY ISSUES Marked out the area to use
All athletes knew the area and the rule that applied Agreed two simple rules with the group Reinforced the rules positively Checked the area, equipment, athletes and kit Moved and watched the activity to see if anyone was moving with discomfort.

9 END OF SESSION Brought the group together and made sure that they left the area safely (think track) Made sure that everyone knew about the next session Checked that all had their kit Checked to ensure that all were being collected by an adult Collected up any equipment and stored it appropriately.

10 ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver part of a session from a card provided by a Supervising Coach Provide a safe environment at the right level for the participant Only deliver the session that has been agreed and that you are comfortable with Prepare the area for the activity Review the session with Supervising Coach Make the session fun and safe Make sure that all athletes are collected at the end of the session.
