“We give a one off £25 per member discount each year for gym membership. We also run golf lessons each year and we are hoping to run an indoor bowls day soon.”

“We support a regular badminton and cricket club by advertising their matches and providing funds for purchase of equipment. We have regular walking events usually 3 or 4 per year and usually between 20 and 30 members take part. A local gym offers members 10% discount. Our annual BBQ and celebration party involves an option to play games such as outdoor badminton, bat & ball, etc. We have tenpin bowling social evenings (can be anywhere between 10 and 40 people taking part) We have helped one runner to attend a 10K run in London. We sponsored a member to become a fitness instructor. We offer a £3 refund on the cost of ten session Zumba tickets. We are also planning a kayaking taster day in the spring and a sailing day.”

2. Communication Advertising Activities Newsletters/emails were the most popular method of communication used by 92% of AAs. Social media was the least popular and only used by 21% of AAs. Only 16% of AAs used all 5 methods of communications to advertise activities – Newsletters/Emails, Website, Posters/Flyers, Word of Mouth and Social Media. Feedback Opportunities for Members Only a handful of AAs provide an opportunity for members to give feedback on activities attended However the majority of AAs stated that they would like to have a feedback process in place.

3. Support/Partnerships Externally Over half of all AAs have never contacted an external organisation for assistance. Examples include local councils, local community groups, a national governing body or county sports partnership. CSSC Head Office Additional funding. Help with promoting and advertising events. Help Area Associations find out what their members want on offer.

Physical Activity Development Fund What is the Physical Activity Development Fund? This fund is designed to help you pilot a new physical activity in your local area or region for CSSC member and prospective members. Who can apply? CSSC Regions and Area Associations

What can CSSC fund? A one-off activity or an ongoing activity for up to 8 weeks. Once the activity has ended, the success will be evaluated and you will need to think about how you can further support the activity for participants if it is considered successful. An activity that directly benefits both CSSC members and prospective members. Start-up costs e.g. the purchase of non-personal equipment, venue hire costs, coach/instructor fees, promotional materials. Physical Activity Development Fund

What can’t CSSC fund? Ongoing running costs of an activity already existing in your area or region. An activity designed for individuals or where the benefit is for one person only. An activity organised to run for longer than 8 weeks. An activity that has already been tried and tested in your area in the last 2 years. Physical Activity Development Fund

How do I apply? Complete an application form and send electronically to daisy.clarke@cssc.co.ukdaisy.clarke@cssc.co.uk There is no deadline; applications can be made at any time. There is a limited budget available and the fund will be closed once it is exhausted. What happens if my application is successful? CSSC will support and offer guidance in the planning stages and in the delivery of the activity, as well as assisting with marketing and advertising the activity. Requirements from the applicant? To record all monitoring information. Provide further opportunities if the activity is successful. Providing a case study to allow for sharing of good practice. Physical Activity Development Fund
