Welcome March 2012 Purpose of meeting with you 1. Determine if the Fire Hall at Grosvenor St. should be declared surplus. 2. To obtain feedback and direction from residents and other stakeholders related to options and considerations moving forward.

Outline of Presentation Presentation of the Fire Hall status, review options and outline next step. Please respect everyone’s time by asking questions related to the Grosvenor Fire Hall closure and/or options for the Fire Hall. Councillor Orlikow will remain afterwards to discuss any other issues with you. Sign up sheet available for those who want us to contact them regarding the Fire Hall or go to for updated postings and/or to add your comments.

What is happening The functions of Fire Hall on Grosvenor St. have been re-located to new station on Taylor Ave. The Fire Hall site has not been declared surplus therefore has not been sold. There are a number of options to explore and determine before the land is declared surplus. Leaving the Fire Hall boarded up is not an option.

Should The Fire Hall Be Declared Surplus? Option – no Option – yes Option – yes with conditions

What are appropriate alternative uses for the Fire Hall Site? Option – Community Use such as daycare, Seniors centre, etc Option – Residential In-fill Option – Field Space Other – Go for it all.

Orlikow Plan Background The neighbourhood has been under tremendous pressure due to traffic, development and aging infrastructure. However, the neighbourhood remains, through the commitment of its neighbours, as one of the most desirable neighbourhoods to live in the Ward. Orlikow’s plan takes advantage of the opportunities associated with the repurposing of two pieces of public lands which are The City Fire Hall lands and building and the School Divisions Sir John Franklin lands.

The Lands SJF School Fire Hall Site

The Opportunity 1. Increase field space at the SJF site 2. Save a majority of existing green space of the SJF school site 3. Ensure Fire Hall site is zoned residential 4. Retain bus route 5. Provide off street parking 6. Add new tax revenue and assessment 7. Re-establish AT link 8. Improve transparency

The Fire Hall Lands

Fire Hall Without Bus Loop Relocate bus loop Extend field space Demolish Fire Station and move footprint

The SJF School Lands

The SJF School Lands With Bus Loop Relocated bus loop Trees for light and sound barrier GREEN SPACE Off street parking AT route

How? Step 1 – obtaining neighbourhood input Step 2– acquiring SJF field space from the PSFB. Step 3 – re-locate bus loop to the South end of the SJF field. Step 4 – meet with community to review next step.

Barriers Neighbourhood Support – this will have an impact on the neighbourhood and will require support to happen. City of Winnipeg Support – the bus loop must be moved and Council support required. Public vs. Market – obtaining the SJF space is critical and the Plan includes paying significant monies for the land but likely less than the private market.

Next Steps - Determine level of support for plan or other - Provide feedback from Departments and stakeholders. - Do not declare Fire Hall surplus at this time. - Submit proposal to Wpg School Division to acquire SJF - Report back to Neighbourhood
