Earmarking resources to enable flexible approaches to developing aged care services where the involvement of a specific linguistic or cultural community is necessary. Earmarking funds in ACAR rounds for the development and funding of service models that will allow CALD communities to partner with existing providers to provide a culturally or linguistically specific aged care service. 15. The Gateway Gateway My Aged Care website has translations of information in 7 community languages. Feedback? Acceptance, but no final resolution, of the need for a rapid and effective interpreter service when people without fluent English phone the Gateway call centre. Informed CALD participation and inclusion in the aged care system (4): PICACs’ vital role/s cultural competency training for all aged care services; enhancing opportunities for training and employment of CALD people in aged care; advancing health literacy for CALD elders and their carers ‑ a vital component of effective consumer directed care (CDC); promoting and advancing your services in the context of assisting the aged care reform and CALD Aged Care Strategy implementation processes (both nationally and at a State and local level). The challenges and the opportunities A key challenge remains to integrate CALD perspectives into the overall aged care and health delivery frameworks so that ageing and aged people from CALD backgrounds are included in the development of the full range of appropriate aged care services and are empowered and confident in accessing those services. Our common aim must be to jointly and separately contribute to developing an aged care system where CALD inclusion is integral. These are exciting times.
