Development on Nordic platform for sensitive biomedical data The Tryggve project Antti Pursula

Tryggve project – platform for sensitive biomedical data Tryggve project aims at building a Nordic platform for sensitive BMS research data Nordic collaborative effort, funded by – NeIC – the Nordic e-Infrastructure Collaboration – ELIXIR Nodes in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Project officially launched in April 2014, end date in 4/2017 Builds on expertise and national efforts in Nordic countries 2

Vision for Nordic platform for sensitive data Motivation: Enable and strengthen biomedical research Produce Nordic secure platform for processing and cross-border sharing of sensitive biomedical data – With interfaces to various data sources Digitalize the routines for sharing sensitive data – Less time for administration, more time for science – Environment in line with law and regulations Aim is not to change legal framework Aim is not to change who gets to use the data 3

Links to outside Nordics Tryggve is a Nordic effort -- but by no means limited to the Nordic countries Approach is on open communication and interlinking with international parties Flexibility in design so that including additional use cases and resources is possible Discussion with ELIXIR actively through Nodes in Nordic countries 4

Current and emerging components Services for secure data – TSD, Oslo University Biomedical cloud infrastructure, CSC Finland Mosler system for secure (genomics) data, SciLifeLab, Sweden Bioinformatics tool registry, Elixir node in Denmark 5

Potential use cases Tryggve project development is based on user needs Potential user communities identified at this point include – Biobanking (BBMRI in Nordic countries) – Imaging (EuroBioImaging) – Human genomics – Cancer research – Academy-industry collaboration Project aims to develop pilot services for several use cases running on the Tryggve secure platform 6

Requirements gathering Project currently in requirements gathering stage This mostly done through collecting use cases – What is the current challenge / bottleneck? – Who would be users of the potential service? – What requirements for security, scalability 7

Reference Group Project has established a Reference Group including members from user communities and national e-infrastructures Aim to give input and advice to the project as well as ensure that project results are acceptable for the users Reference Group members are a hub for collecting use cases – RG members listed in project wiki 8
