 Log into Moodle and download the “Application Process Notes”

I know where I want to go and what I want to major in. Now how do I apply?

 What all do I need to do to apply?  Where do I find more information on the application process?  How do I begin gathering up all my materials to apply?  When are the deadlines and when do I find out if I got accepted?

 Understand preparation needed for an application packet.  Find and locate the necessary application information on a university/college website.  Determine, review and complete an application form.  Compile a complete application packet.

 Seniors: What does it take to apply to a college /university? How long does it take to put together a packet? When did you send in your packet? When did you hear if you had been accepted?

 Application materials vary for college/university and programs that you are applying for.  Typically you may need: Application form Application fee Transcripts Resume SAT scores Letters of Recommendations Essay Interview, Portfolio, Audition

 Where do I get an application form? Colleges send forms or request for forms in informational packets. Download printable forms online from college/university. Complete online form and submit electronically. Example

 Usually anywhere from $25 - $35.00  Non-refundable  Write check, bring with completed application to guidance department

 A record of your secondary learning experience.  Your high school transcript allows anybody to clearly see what classes you've taken, what value or unit value was given for the course as well as your grade.

 College recruiters and employers alike want to see a brief summary of your abilities, education, and experiences. Objective Education Experience – Volunteer or Work Related Extracurricular Activities  Gives more details than an application may share.

 Register for SAT’s  On registration form include all the schools you plan on applying too.  SAT scores will automatically be sent to your schools when available.  Certain SAT scores are required for admission to various schools/universities.

 Usually need 3 letters of recommendations from: Teachers Coaches Advisors Counselors Supervisors Employers  Highlight your qualities, experiences and what would make you an excellent college student candidate.

 Colleges/Universities often have essay prompts along with the college application.  Various topics to pick from  Reviewed by director of admissions  Looks for: Presentation of ideas Writing quality Grammar, Spelling, Punctuation, Capitalization

 You meet with the Admissions Director  Gives them a chance to: Review application packet and resume in person. Ask a few questions to determine if you would be a candidate for the program. Evaluate your character and personality.

 Required for some programs: Photography Art Design  Samples of your work  Reviewed for quality, prior knowledge, skills, talents

 Typically music programs require auditions.  Sample of work for quality, prior knowledge, skills, talents

 Begin to put together information in early August/September  Better to get your application in early.  Various Deadlines Early admission Rolling admission

 Usually hear a few weeks after deadlines  Can beginning getting letters in late October, early November.

 Send in your deposit as soon as you’ve made your decision  Return your required paperwork to ensure space in the program and on campus.
