Mariette Bates Academic Director Began in the field in 1974 Was Program Director at One to One Foundation, funding community programs in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut Co-founded a nonprofit agency to work on systems change advocacy, from 1983 – 2008 Worked with parents and self advocates to develop services and organizations Has taught courses in disability at CUNY since 1993

CUNY School of Professional Studies Home to 12 Master’s Degrees, 11 Bachelor’s Degrees, 3 Dual Degrees, and 9 Certificate and Advanced Certificate programs Over 3,500 students are enrolled in degree programs Accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools One of 25 CUNY campuses, and home to CUNY’s online programs.

MS in Disability Services Who should apply: Staff working n Disability Service offices who need to acquire specific, advanced knowledge and wish to obtain an educational credential Those wishing to prepare for a career in disability services Those responsible for accommodations in public venues such as parks, concert or sports arenas, public libraries, etc.

Our Curriculum Students take six required courses: Psychosocial, Cultural and Political Aspects of Disability Legal Aspects of Disability Services Assistive Technology in Higher Education Higher Education Disability Service Administration Neurodiverse Students in College Disability Services Capstone Course

Our Curriculum Students take four electives – choose from: Universal Design in Higher Education Emerging Populations Accommodations Outside the Classroom Supporting Students with Psychiatric Disabilities Disability and Diversity Special Topics in Disability Services Independent Study in Disability Services

Frequently Asked Questions Can I really earn my MS degree online? Yes, you can earn either the Advanced Certificate or the MA completely online. How long will it take to get my degree? It depends on how many courses you take each semester. Most students take one or two courses. We do not recommend taking more.

Frequently Asked Questions Do you accept courses from other master’s programs? We will look at courses for transfer on a case by case basis. We would need the syllabus from courses in order to determine if we can transfer credits. Are there scholarships? Yes, we do have limited scholarship funds available. Do you provide accommodations for students with disabilities? Yes, we provide accommodations for students with documented disabilities.
