Moving Trainees On… Personalised feedback has been emailed to trainees to assist you and your trainees in target setting and focused improvement for the coming term. Decide on your priority Teachers’ Standards & focus your trainee’s training plan on those: e.g. 1,3,7 if your trainee is still a minimum in these.

Blue Sky Issues /Assessment Update Remember to follow ‘Best Fit’ approach as per the handbook – not the BLUESKY grades per sub standards. OFSTED Videos created and sent out to support you – please let us know if you haven’t received this. We will add them to the website. Next Assessment point is end of this term. Final Assessment by week commencing 2nd July please refer to page 19 of handbook for final grading advice. Bluesky prompted us to grade per sub standard – we didn’t realise that this wouldn’t apply a best fit model. By not applying a best fit model it penalises the trainees grades!

Some Best Practice Examples Reviews Weekly Meetings

Term 3 Expectations 70% teaching requirement across the range of ALL subjects including PE. Subject Audits – check how your trainees are doing these and taking action to develop weak areas – build this into their half termly training plan. Ensure trainees are using the other 30% to undertake other professional development opportunities e.g. see other year groups, observations etc. and PGCE work. Weekly review meetings include a part where you look at the grade descriptors to support identification of strengths and areas for development & review targets set previous week. Week commencing 2nd July– Final grade being awarded should agreed at your SCITT mentor visit. We will check that two pieces of good quality evidence are on Blue Sky. Not just objectives! Essay prep for the PGCE, PPA time, Lesson observations of other teachers, joint learning walks with a clear focus for development linked to their targets

Term 3 Trainee Expectations Trainees’ should have the following in their day to day folder : (we are asking you to check please!) Their weekly timetable Their planning– see p.45 and p.46 handbook Recent schemes of work and teaching resources (relating to current units etc) Information about children’s progress  e.g. class records etc used for planning for progress Subject knowledge audits and action plan record - see p.40  of handbook for requirements Copies of PGCE assignments Not just objectives! Term 3 Trainee Expectations On Bluesky they should have already: 2 pieces of evidence per standard (on going) Weekly self-evaluations and weekly meeting documents Records of feedback and lesson observations School Mentor Reviews for each assessment point including targets and comments against the standards By 2nd July: Pupil Tracking Task -  see p.75 of handbook (use as evidence of TS2.1, 6.3) EAL task - see p.76 of handbook (use as evidence of TS5.4) SEND task  (NON PGCE trainees only as assignment 4 covers) Not just objectives! Ofsted will visit in the summer term… Stage 1 We’ll get the call on a Wednesday - visit Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. At least 2 inspectors, maybe 3. They will choose which trainees to watch teach. We will contact your school as soon as we know they are visiting you and let you know timings etc. They will look at the trainee’s targets ,weekly reviews, Bluesky Evidence and Teaching Folders (see list on slide 9) please give them a quiet room to do this in. You may be asked to come to a group mentor meeting with the inspectors. They will want to watch the trainee teach & the feedback you give afterwards.

What are they looking for? How well does your trainee teach? Are they getting out to see a range of other year groups? Are your weekly targets clear, helpful and linked to the standards? Can they see progression from week to week? Is your assessment of the trainee accurate – use of grade descriptors? They will ask questions about the programme – see FAQs sheet

Shared Moderation… We are going to head over to the ICT suite – pair up with someone you don’t know… We want you to look at each other’s latest assessment grades and review comments on Bluesky. Compare the written comments with the grade descriptors in the handbook – do they match up? Have you been generous in your comments but not in your grade? Or vice versa? On reflection would you change anything? Do your comments reflect the descriptors?

How did you get on? How did the evidence match up? What ideas did you come up with for? Does the evidence in your trainee’s folder reflect the grade you have given them in each standard? If the student is meeting the minimum standard how can they be moved to good? If the student is meeting the good standard how can they be moved to high? If the student is meeting the high standard – does their evidence prove this?

BLUESKY EVidence review Task! Consider together the following questions: Does the evidence in your trainee’s folder reflect the grade you have given them in each standard? If the student is meeting the minimum standard how can they be moved to good? What tasks can you set? If the student is meeting the good standard how can they be moved to high? If the student is meeting the high standard – does their evidence show this?
