COURSE OBJECTIVES After successful completion of this course, participants will be able to; Apply the IATA DGR correctly understand the legal aspects involved Identify DGR which are forbidden for air transport, permitted as cargo under the regulation, excepted from the regulations in all or in part Properly mark & label a DG package and/or verify if that marking & labeling requirements have been met Identify undeclared dangerous goods Follow general emergency procedures when a damage or leakage package is discovered Apply provision for passenger and crew correctly Touching Africa, Touching the World

Regulatory Background In order to avoid accidents and incidents involving dangerous goods in air transportation, the United Nation’s Committee of Experts (UN CoE) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have issued recommended procedures for dangerous goods transportation to ICAO, the International Civil Aviation Organization. The IAEA recommendations cover the transportation of radioactive material, whilst the recommended procedures by UN CoE deal with all other kinds of dangerous goods. The subsequent regulatory publication by ICAO than serves as legal base for the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. UN CoEICAO Touching Africa, Touching the World

The ICAO/TI serves as legal source for air legislation in Ghana,Non-compliance leads to legal consequences. Additional Dangerous Goods Regulations are included in:  GCAA and the Airlines OM A (Operations Manual A / Chapter 9)
