1 ACCEPTANCE PROCEDURE FOR ALL SHIPMENTS

2 MANDATORY INSPECTION ALL SHIPMENTS especially CARGOES shall be PHYSICALLY checked and inspected by Customer Associate in from of the Shipper. Emphasis on inspection is on Dangerous Goods (DG) defined as articles or substances, which are capable of posing a risk to HEALTH, SAFETY, PROPERTY or the ENVIRONMENT. Once DG is detected, this has to be properly handled and may be removed and returned to the shipper. Cargo has to be free from DG prior to acceptance. If DG is deemed acceptable, PROPER HANDLING, PACKAGING and DECLARATION must be made by the SHIPPER and ASSOCIATE.

3 PROPER DECLARATION Cargoes should be properly declared and not just be a description Gadgets/Equipment/Appliances with batteries should be properly declared [e.g. phone with battery (detached)] Original packaging complete with original factory seal from manufacturer

4 IDENTIFICATION and PACKAGING
BATTERIES More of cargoes being accepted are battery powered such as MOBILE PHONES, LAPTOPS, TABLETS, TOYS, CAMERAS etc… Batteries are generally classified under DANGEROUS GOODS and should be properly handled

5 NOT ACCEPTABLE BATTERIES via AIR
DRY BATTERY – LITHIUM METAL usually used in toys, flash lights (Non rechargeable) Suggest to shipper to remove and just advise to purchase battery at destination Common examples are COINT TYPE, DOUBLE AA, TRIPLE A, 9 VOLTS, D-TYPE WET BATTERIES – AUTOMOBILE/MOTORCYCLE BATTERIES usually for VEHICLES. Considered as CORROSIVE

6 If shipping by LAND, these should be properly packed… (DRY BATTERIES should be “Detached” or “Disconnected”… The BATTERY TERMINALS are to be PROTECTED from SHORT CIRCUITS) Recommended that BATTERY TERMINALS be taped by ELECTRICAL TAPE and/or packed INDIVIDUALLY by PLASTIC and not to be bundled with other BATTERIES and/or packed beside any METAL OBJECTS than can cause short circuit.

7 ACCEPTABLE BATTERIES for AIR and LAND
DRY BATTERY – LITHIUM ION (re-chargeable type) commonly used in MOBILE PHONES, TABLETS, LAPTOPS. If battery is built in, just ENSURE GADGET IS TURNED OFF If battery is DETACHABLE, same procedure shall be followed… (DRY BATTERIES should be “Detached” or “Disconnected”… The BATTERY TERMINALS are to be PROTECTED from SHORT CIRCUITS) Recommended that BATTERY TERMINALS to be protected by ELECTRICAL TAPE and/or packed INDIVIDUALLY by PLASTIC and not to be bundled together with other BATTERIES.

8 IF SHIPPER REFUSES INSPECTION, CARGO SHOULD NOT BE ACCEPTED.
We need to clearly explain the REGULATION to our SHIPPERS for the SAFETY of all CONCERNED.

GUIDELINES for ACCEPTING ITEMS with BATTERIES set by International Air Transport Authority (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations Definitions: LITHIUM BATTERIES – The term “lithium battery” refers to a family of batteries with different chemistries. For the purposes of the Dangerous Goods Regulations they are separated into: LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES (Li-ion) - Rechargeable battery commonly used in consumer electronics. (generally found in mobile phones, laptops, etc...) LITHIUM METAL BATTERIES – Non-rechargeable batteries that have lithium metal or lithium compounds. (generally used to power devices such as watches, calculators, cameras, toys, etc…)

ACCEPTANCE PROVISIONS: ACCEPTABLE LITHIUM ION BATTERIES: Sample of lithium-ion batteries ITEMS WITH ACCEPTABLE BATTERIES: Portable medical electronic devices such as Nebulizer, etc… Laptops, Tablets, Ipod, PSP and other electronic items Rechargeable lamps

ACCEPTANCE PROVISIONS: 2. PROHIBITED BY AIR FREIGHT LBC is using Passenger and Cargo Aircraft is transporting shipments to provincial destinations, customer associates are advised NOT TO ACCEPT items containing Lithium Metal Batteries since IT IS NOT PERMITTED for Air Transport as stated in the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (effective January 1, 2015).

ACCEPTANCE PROVISIONS: Do not accept defective battery. Such batteries may pose a safety risk and have the potential of dangerous evolution of heat, fire or short circuit

PACKING INSTRUCTIONS: One of the major risks associated with the transport of batteries and battery-powered equipment is short-circuit of the battery as a result of the battery terminals coming into contact with other batteries, metal objects, or conductive surfaces Packaged batteries or cells must be separated in a way to prevent short circuits and damage to terminals They must be packed in a strong outer packaging or be contained in equipment

Sample packaging meeting the requirements: Option 2: To protect against short circuit, include the following methods: Pack each battery in fully enclosed inner packaging made of non-conductive material such as plastic wrap (bubble wrap may be used) Ensuring exposed terminals or connectors are protected with non-conductive caps or non-conductive tape like electrical tape and/or scotch tape Separate or pack batteries in a manner to prevent contact with other batteries, devices or conductive materials (e.g. battery with other metal objects) in the packaging

Sample packaging meeting the requirements: Option 2: To protect against short circuit, include the following methods: Each battery-powered device or units that permanently house the power supply (like Apple Iphone) must be powered off or cannot be operated before packaging. It is also recommended that each device is individually and properly packed.
