As we start our second week with this new program we will increase our stamina of Read to Self for 10 minutes. I will also be introducing the station, Work on Writing, where we will create an “I Can” chart of the behavior we would see while students are working on writing skills. Students will model the correct and incorrect ways to independently learn within this station.

I am looking forward to what this year has in store. Linder This past week has been fantastic. We have been placing ourselves on number lines. Actually, we have been working really hard to convert fractions to decimals so that we can compare them and put them in order. We will be working on Prime Factorization. We will be doing Drops in the Bucket weekly. We will check these each Friday. Be sure and check your child's agenda for Math homework. Thanks for all you do to help your child at home.  Wells Crowder Thanks students and parents for another rockin' week at A.T. In 5th grade Social Studies, we will finish up our study of US geography. Students will also examine the Native American migration routes and how they adapted to the environments they lived in. In 6th grade Social Studies, students will continue to study the culture through the five themes of geography. Fifth grade math classes continue working with place value. We will add working with expanded form and comparing numbers. We will also begin looking at patterns toward the end of the week. Math- In Math this week, we are comparing and ordering numbers to 100,000 identifying how much more or less one number is than another number and finding the rule to our number patterns.    Science- This week in Science we will study animal and plant adaptations. Bowen Science - Science classes will be learning about matter and cells.  We've tested this week over the scientific method.  Ask your child what a hypothesis is! Writing - Writing classes are going well.  Are study of the six traits has helped us with sentence fluency and finding our writers voices! Rice Writer's Workshop: We are looking at different ways to make our writing better. We will begin an original writing in a couple of weeks. Daily Five Literacy: We are building our stamina in our "read to self" component. Today we added our second component, "Work On Writing“ I am looking forward to what this year has in store. Rock On!
