1 Our “I Can” statements will remain the same because of the snow days….
2nd – 6th Rockstars Mahaney Killebrew Due to the snow days last week, our I Can statements will carry over into this week: 2nd Grade Literacy  I can develop oral vocabulary. I can compare and contrast to tell how parts of a story are alike and different. I can infer by using clues from the story and background knowledge. 3rd Grade Literacy I can recognize that a plot contains a problem and solution.  2nd Grade Science I can identify which plant parts make and store food. I can identify which plant parts make new plants. 3rd Grade Science I can define force. I can explain how work is done. I can demonstrate how work is done. 2nd Grade Math - My 2nd graders will be learning different multiplication and division strategies.  They will also be solving real-world problems using multiplication and division.  Thank you for working with your child on memorizing multiplication facts through 5. 3rd Grade Math - My 3rd grade math class will be using related multiplication facts to divide. They will also be dividing a 1-digit or a 2-digit number with or without regrouping as well as problem-solving. Please continue to work on multiplication facts as well as Compass Learning if you have internet access.  :) 2nd Grade Social Studies - The 2nd grade class will be studying about the Civil War and the events that led up to this war.  3rd Grade Social Studies - My 3rd grade Social Studies class will be studying about Canada's location, climate, and major regions as well as the differences and similarities between Canada and the United States.   4th Grade Social Studies - My two 4th grade classes will be studying about Kentucky's years after statehood.  January Weekly Reminders Monday, January 20th - Martin Luther King Jr Day: No School Friday, February 14th – Valentine’s Parties Rogers Our “I Can” statements will remain the same because of the snow days…. 4th Grade Literacy – In Literacy class students will continue to learn comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be able to identify and make generalizations (a broad statement based on several examples). Students will also continue to learn and strengthen their vocabulary and grade level sight work skills. 5th Grade Literacy - In Literacy class students will build upon their prior knowledge of comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be able to determine the main idea and identify key details throughout a passage or story.

Isn't it great to be back together at Austin Tracy? We have so much to get done. So, let's get started. We will be continuing solving Algebraic Equations. We will use the Hands on Equations manipulative as well as the app on the iPads.  This is so much fun. We won't want to move on!! 5th grade Social Studies I can explain key arguments made by Patriots for independence. I can explain key arguments made by Loyalists against independence. 6th grade Social Studies I can use Wiki and Wordle to showcase my country five themes of geography project. 5th grade Math I can use algebraic expressions to describe situations and solve real world problems. I can recognize, write, and evaluate simple algebraic expressions in one variable. I can write and evaluate inequalities. . Crowder Math - We are beginning a unit in fractions this week! We will be focusing on vocabulary, comparing fractions and adding and subtracting fractions. Science: This week in science we will be learning about changes in our earth (fast and slow changes). Bowen Language Arts - In language, we will continue to work on informational writing and giving a response to others informational writing. This prepares us for our passage based writing that is required for K-Prep testing. Reflection is very important to the writing process and will continue to be a priority as well. Rice Writer's Workshop Happy New Year! We are excited to begin another writing unit. This week begins our informative essay unit. We will be spending 3 weeks learning how to write an informative essay. We can't wait to get our pencils moving. Daily 5 Happy New Year! So excited to see what we will read in This week's focus skill is Main Idea. We will be finding the main idea in everything we read and write. Happy New Year! Rock On 2014!
