2nd Grade Literacy  I can identify the topic and main idea of a text.  I can locate the supporting details in a paragraph.  I use various text features to locate key facts or information in a text efficiently. 3rd Grade Literacy I can identify facts that support the main idea and aid comprehension. I can use the monitor and clarify strategy to aid comprehension.  I can use content to find synonyms and meaning for unfamiliar words. 2nd Grade Science  I can describe how sense organs warn people of danger. I can explain how people use what their senses tell them. 3rd Grade Science I can give examples of what a food chain is and describe how energy passes through a food chain. I can explain what an adaptation is. 2nd Grade Math - My 2nd graders will be working on subtracting numbers up to 1,000 with and without regrouping and solving real-world subtraction problems. 3rd Grade Math - My 3rd graders will be working on using bar models to solve 2-step real-world addition and subtraction word problems. 2nd Grade Social Studies - The 2nd grade class will be studying about the causes and effects of the War of 1812. 3rd Grade Social Studies - My 3rd graders will continue their study of the thirteen colonies. 4th Grade Social Studies - My two 4th grade classes will be studying the first people of Kentucky and Native American culture. Oct. 28 – Nov. 1 Weekly Reminders Thank you to all of the students and families for your support during Family Literacy Night and the canned food drive.  Halloween Party – Thursday, October 31st 1:30-2:15 Bring in items for your homeroom basket by Tuesday, November 19th Winter Extravaganza - Monday, November 25th  Rogers 4th Grade Literacy – In Literacy class students will continue to learn comprehension skills, strategies to become better readers, and key vocabulary words. This week students will be able to correctly determine the cause and effect situations that occur within a story.  5th Grade Literacy - In Literacy class students will build upon their prior knowledge of comprehension skills, strategies to become better readers, and key vocabulary words. This week students will be able to compare and contrast characters, the setting, and events that take place in a story.

We will wrap up Ch 3 with out Test on Tuesday.  Be sure to practice by using some of the websites on my Teacher page.  Our next exploration will be with Rates and Ratios.  What is the ratio of boys to girls in your home?  The answer to this question will earn you 10 Eagle Bucks.  Go Figure!!! Math Fifth grade will continue to work on fractions.  This week we will  work on adding and subtracting fractions, mixed numbers and division expressions. Some students are still struggling with greatest common factor and least common multiple. Continue to practice at home and reinforce those skills needed to add/subtract fractions, simplify and find equivalent fractions.  Remember Drops in the Bucket due Friday. Social Studies Fifth grade continues their study of the thirteen British colonies. Student have labeled a map of the colonies in which they will be tested on this week with Chapter 7.  We are focused on the reasons colonies were founded, resources available, climate and geography, government and jobs of the colonies.  Sixth grade will begin project based upon the five themes of geography.  Students will select a country to study.  They will create  wiki pages to showcase their work.  Students will also be using Wordle.  They can work on these projects at home as well. . Crowder Math - This week in math we will be continuing with multiplication and division with while numbers. So far we have worked on multiplying 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers with and without regrouping. We will continue with these strategies and begin dividing with and without remainders.  Science - We have had a lot of fun learning about the water cycle, expect a quiz early this week. We will move on to clouds and weather this week! Conservation projects are due November 8th!  Bowen Things will be a little spooky in science this week! Watch for experiments dealing with force and of course a little slime! Our young writers have not only written spooky stories, they are also getting a jump on letters to Santa!  Be watching for those letters to be published in a special addition of The Barren County Progress. Rice Writer's Workshops We will be finishing our Mystery Narrative this week and then moving on to Language Mechanics. We will also be doing a timed Open Response this week to get an idea of where the students are currently performing.  6th Grade Writer's Mr. Bad Habits in Writing has been taken to the hospital via 9-1-1 First Responders due to malnutrition. We are constantly reminding ourselves not to feed "him".  We will continue to monitor the progress of Mr. Bad Habits.  Daily Five Our theme for the next two weeks will be Point of View (POV). We will be discussing the different points of view and why it is so important to the storyline of the story.  Reading Street Some of the 6th grade students are having a difficult time with the independence that is required through the Daily Five Management System. This week, we will be looking at the independence level of each 6th grade student and making a decision about which reading program is best suited based on individual needs. .
