What Is WhippleWare? A collection of web-based software applications designed to assist SWTJC faculty and staff with college related tasks including class scheduling advisement managing syllabi (New) Written by Dick Whipple. “WhippleWare” name coined by Darla Dornbusch. Web-based, which means it is available on any computer on or off campus that has access to the Internet. Best when used with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or newer. Class Schedule Manager facilitates creation of semester class schedules before they are posted to Colleague (college’s administrative software) and published to the public. Course Crosswalk Manager makes available degree plan and course change histories that are helpful in advising Technical students. Syllabus Manager implements the Master Syllabus Policy of the college and will eventually assist with core curriculum reporting.

How Do I Access Syllabus Manager?

How Do I Access Syllabus Manager?

The Purpose of Syllabus Manager The Syllabus Manager was written to assist faculty in the maintenance and dissemination of the College's syllabi. It will help us achieve the goal of a unified curriculum that is delivered throughout our service area with “quality and consistency”. As a web based application, anyone with access to the Internet and a proper security account can access the College's syllabi. "Guest" access is provided for those who only wish to view and print syllabi.  In time it will also provide support for the college’s implementation of the core curriculum.

An Important Point About Syllabus Development The Master Template is a division/department responsibility. It should be development with the participation and consensus of all full-time faculty in the department. The Class Syllabus is the responsibility of each faculty member. While it contains the common master template components, it protects and supports the individuality each faculty member brings to the classroom. The Syllabus Manager is a “work in progress”. Help me make it work for you!

Here are some Do’s Use a word processor such as Microsoft Word or Word Perfect to create and edit components, then copy and paste to Syllabus Manager. Set the margins for about 6 inches of printable line, narrower than normal. Use Times New Roman, 12 point font, black. Use HTML to achieve special formatting requirements.  See Help for an example. Save word processor copies of all your work. Number master course objectives consecutively beginning with one. Number added course objectives as m.n choosing the value of m and n to insert the goal at the proper point in the list of master objectives. For instance, user course goal numbered 6.5 will appear between master objectives 6 and 7 on the printed syllabus. For section number on class syllabus, use the format “YYYY SEM xxxx” where YYYY = year; SEM = Fall, Spring, Summer 1, Summer 2; and xxxx = whatever else you want.

And Some Don’ts . . . Don't use special formatting characters such as "tab", "bold", "underline", etc. If you have, remove them before “paste and copying” to Syllabus Manager. Don't use MS Word tables. Use HTML tables instead.

All Master Templates must be in place by May 1, 2005. What Do I Do Now? Fill out your “User Information” Work with your department and check “Master Template” for all your courses: added description prerequisite co-requisite lab fee text book master course objectives evaluation Now you are ready to create your class syllabi! All Master Templates must be in place by May 1, 2005.
