Wells Crowder Rice Linder We will be multiplying and dividing decimals for the next couple of weeks.  Students will have homework on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in order to retain as much skill as possible.  There are links on my webpage if you need some extra reinforcement.  Thanks for making this year such a great year.  Please email me with any questions that you may have about math or your child.. Math In fifth grade, we will learn to add and subtract unlike fractions and mixed numbers in Chapter 3. This will also  include expressing fractions  and mixed numbers as decimals.  Keep encouraging your child to practice facts at home and work on Drops in the Bucket throughout the week.    Social Studies In fifth grade social studies, students will compare the British colonies in America.  They will work in groups to create billboards to promote key features of each region, such as geography and climate, availability of jobs and government.  In sixth grade, students will begin a study of Central America and the Caribbean Islands.  I am very proud of my sixth grade students.  They wrote wonderful, creative myths about a natural feature of Latin America in groups.  Wow, what imaginations they have!!! It won't be much longer and we will have to call 9-1-1 and send our Bad Habits to the hospital. Encourage your child to continue to starve his/her Bad Habits In Writing. Have him/her tell you about his/her Bad Habit.  Daily 5 Literacy We are ready to begin our 2nd Nine Weeks with a much better independent attitude about reading. Our concept/skill this week is THEME. Theme is one of our harder concepts and we will be digging deep into what Theme means and how to find it in our stories.   Rock On! .
