Mrs. Macdonald’s Second Grade Class Welcome, students!

My Goals To give you the academic and social skills you need to progress to third grade. To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. To help you make new friends and discover new interests.

Classroom Community Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other. Our class rules are: Respect all adults and classmates by using kind words and actions. Raise your hand and wait to be called on. Sit properly. Follow directions the first time given. Come to class prepared and ready to learn.

Rewards Verbal praise Tickets Stickers Computer time Recess Work with a buddy Treats

Tickets When you receive a ticket for good behavior, put your first and last name on it. (Neatly) Drop it in the ticket bucket on my desk.

PBS (Positive Behavior Support) Be Safe Be Respectful Be Responsible

Conduct Grade Students will begin the day with an “A” in conduct. (4 Blocks) Each time the student breaks a rule he/she loses a block and their conduct grade is lowered. At end of each day, their conduct grade is recorded in their agenda. Parents should initial their child’s conduct grade, daily. Here is the behavior chart: A – 4 Blocks B – 3 Blocks C – 2 Blocks D -- 1 Block and Reinforcement work F – Behavior Report, lose all free time

Procedures When Entering the Classroom Come in quietly, put your school bag behind your chair, wait for your row to be called up for breakfast. Eat quietly. When finished unpack your belongings and get ready for class. Complete Daily Math/English

Tardies The tardy bell rings at 8:35 A.M. If you enter the class after 8:40 A.M., you must go to the office to get a tardy pass.

Homework Homework assignments will be posted in the front of the room. It is your responsibility to copy your homework assignment in your agenda. (My eBoard address is www.Jmacdonald.jppss.site.eboard.com Pittman’s website is http://pittman.jppss.k12.la.us). Homework is due the day after it is assigned. Failure to turn in homework will result in no recess, no snack, and the loss of a block. Three missed homework assignments equal a behavior report and loss of Panda tag.

Voices When you are working with your group, you should use your “quiet voice”. You should talk loud enough for your own group to hear you, but the other groups should not be able to hear what you are saying. When you are giving a presentation in front of the class, you should speak loud enough for everyone in the class to hear you.

Fire Drills Line up in a single-file line. Walk quickly and silently to the designated area.

Announcements Over the Intercom When an announcement is made over the intercom, everyone should be quiet and listen to the announcement. It is rude to talk while announcements are on. It’s also difficult to hear important information if someone is talking.

Walking in the Hall The hallway is a “Quiet Zone”. You should not talk in the hallway, because you might disturb the other classes. You should walk in a single file line facing forward. Keep your hands to yourself. Keep all body parts away from the walls. Stay to the right side of the wall.

Keeping the Classroom Clean Make sure to throw away trash in the trashcan. There is no need to get up to throw away trash. You can also discard trash as you are exiting the room. If you see trash or a pencil on the floor, please pick it up. Even though it is not your trash, please be kind and throw it away.

Backpacks Keep backpacks on the hooks in the back of the classroom. Take out everything you will need for the day.

Restroom Policy We will go to the restroom in the morning after breakfast. You may also go during recess time. You will have another designated time to go to the restroom in the afternoon. You should not ask to go to the restroom during class time unless it is an emergency.

If I Step Out of the Classroom If I step out of the classroom, no one is to get out of their desks, unless instructed to do so by another teacher. You are to remain quiet and continue to work on your assignment.

Visitors If a visitor enters the room, continue to work on the assigned task. Please do not talk when a visitor enters the room. It is rude to talk while a visitor is talking to me. If the visitor is talking to you, quietly listen to what he or she has to say.

If I am Absent If I am not at school, please remember to follow the PBS rules that you have been taught. Be respectful to the substitute teacher. The substitute teacher will follow the lesson plan that I created, so please complete the assignments as directed.

If You Are Absent If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make-up missed work. If you need to make up a test, you must do so during your P.E. time within one week of the absence.

Assemblies Our assemblies are usually located in the cafeteria. Remember to walk quietly in a single file line. Sit flat on the floor in your assigned area. Remember to set a good example. Demonstrate your knowledge of the three PBS rules: 1. Be Safe 2. Be Respectful 3. Be Responsible

Going the Lunch Lunch for 2nd graders is at 11:20 A.M. We will walk quietly to the cafeteria. If you see a former teacher or a friend, then you may wave, but NEVER step out of line. We will have assigned area for our class. You may whisper when you are in the lunchroom, but please refrain from talking too loud. I will pick you up at 11:50 You will walk back to the classroom quietly, in a single file line. Remember to stay to the right of the walkway.

My Desk My desk is off limits. Do not touch anything on it without permission. Do not touch manipulatives without permission.

Pencils Make sure you have at least 2 sharpened pencils with you, everyday. I will sharpen pencils once in the morning and once in the afternoon.
