Commuting and parking at Rutgers-Camden Danielle Turner

Commuting Money Time Parking

Money Students dont want to pay the outrageous amount of money to pay for parking at the campus. Speaking of parking lots…another thing that may entice students to leave Rutgers, the high prices we pay for parking…instead of renting why not build a lot!? Maybe students arent coming back because they cant afford the parking pass, on top of tuition, fees, and the crazy cost of books!

Money contd Some students feel it is easier and cheaper to commute rather than pay for parking when they are so close to home I commute because I just cant see living in camden. Also it is only 20 minutes away so why pay all the extra money.

Money contd Some people still associate Rutgers with the fact that Camden is such a dangerous city and would rather pay to commute than pay for parking on cmapus and be away from friends and family. …I wouldnt want to live in Camden for the fact that I would be so far from all of my friends, living in a dangerous city, and have a very small amount of the school living with me.

Parking There arent enough meters open for people who dont pay for parking, but still drive to school. sometimes I wasnt so lucky. I did have to pay a ticket because the meter ran out. I usually had to circle the block a couple of times.

Parking contd There is a problem with parking in the lots and having to either walk a couple blocks or take the shuttle and risk being late after playing so much for the parking pass. …i also dont like the fact that you have to walk 4 blocks or take a shuttle to get into the campus, AFTER PAYING RIDICULOUS AMOUNT.

Parking contd Students are taking so much of their time out and paying for classes that they are late to for either driving, waiting or walking to class. …GOOD LUCK FINDING A METER PARK EVERYTIME YOU COME TO SCHOOL.

Time A lot of students dont travel from a far distance. personally I commute rather than live on campus because why pay more money than I have to when I only live maybe 15 min. away driving and about 5 min. on the river line. lindenwold….marlton…williamstown…

Time contd It seems to be a lot easier to commute than wait for the transportation to get you to class late, when if some students were commuters they can make it to class sooner. I like Rutgers-Camden simply because it is convenient. I am a commuter and it is really close to home and work.

Time contd Students feel they pay too much to park when they are so close. personally I commute rather than live on campus because why pay more money than I have to when I only live maybe 15 min. away driving and about 5 min on the river line.

What this means Its simple….students feel parking is too much and there can be solutions that make the problem simple. Some students would like to park, but not with the outrageous prices.

Next Steps One student had an idea….buy a lot instead of renting to lower the cost of a parking pass. More students might make it to class on time and get their moneys worth if they could get closer parking or cheaper prices and not have to travel further to park for free.
