THE ACT: actstudent.org Math – 60 minutes English – 45 minutes Reading – 35 minutes Science – 35 minutes Writing – One essay in 35 minutes Scored from a 1-36 17 is the MINIMUM for state universities- Students should strive to get a score higher. Some schools want to see more than the bare minimum(A&T, UNCG, etc.) Students will get their scores back this semester at the home address they provided (or possibly through email message and then set up your ACT account)

Fee Waivers Qualifying for a waiver is based on family income. Qualifying students can be provided with 2 SAT Test Fee Waivers and 2 ACT Test Fee Waivers For each SAT Test Fee Waiver the student uses Covers the late fee for late registration and the cost of the essay 4 College Application Fee Waivers (collegeboard account) If they miss an exam or turned away they lose the fee waiver Test as RMHS - 8 am on Saturday morning It is the student's responsibility to send the test scores to the schools they have applied to. If a student used a fee waiver they send their scores to as many scores as possible for free. If a student did not use a waiver and does not designate schools to receive scores when registering it is $12.00 to send each score. Some schools (mostly private- will accept scanned in scores from the counselor )

College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC.org) → One of the best things NC high school students can use! You will use this site to apply to in-state colleges, send transcripts to in-state colleges, and search for scholarships during your Senior year. CFNC will link you to other application portals if needed including the Common Application and college specific website admissions portals. For Out of State schools, use the Common Application or the College’s specific website admissions portal. Avoid the Coalition Application if you can – some students’ info was delayed through this process. Create a CFNC account NOW: -You can use the Free SAT/ACT test prep Explore the Colleges/Universities in NC Research careers that interest you Complete Residency Determination Service in July.

FINISHING JUNIOR YEAR STRONG GPA: Visit your counselor to find this out if you don’t know it! Most received GPA info during registration. Finish this semester strong. The transcript you submit with your applications in the fall will go through the end of your junior year. Do you have all the courses you need for your next step? Hopefully you had that discussion during registration. Are you challenging yourself?

Sign up for the ASVAB now if you are considering a military option Talk to Ms. Foxworth or your counselor if you need help exploring options, and use the CFNC.ORG tools. Want to play a sport in college? NCAA Eligibility Center starts as an 11th grader. You can register at https://web3.ncaa.org/ecwr3/. There is a fee or you can request a waiver if you used an SAT fee waiver.See your counselor or Ms. Parrish if you have questions or for more details. Talk to your parents about your options!

EXPLORING COLLEGES AND PREPARING FOR FALL OF SENIOR YEAR Know the admitted student profiles for your colleges of interest and how your GPA and test scores compare Update your resume and consider who will write recommendation letters for you Do something resume-enhancing this summer Visit colleges Be sure to take the ACT and SAT this spring, know if your colleges require an SAT subject tests for admission Know early action, early decision and regular decision timelines for your colleges Avoid suspensions or criminal charges that would need to be reported on your application Be ready to submit applications in early fall! Parent Prep for Senior Year Residency Determination Service (RDS) This application is used to determine if a student is designated as in-state for tuition purposes. Available to be completed July 1! Information Needed: Parent: SSN, DOB, how you filed taxes; license number Student: SSN, DOB, Student ID number Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): This application is used to gauge the amount of financial aid a student is eligible for based on parent(s)’ information. Opens October 1! Information Needed: Parent: FSA ID, SSN, DOB, tax information from 2018 Student: FSA ID, SSN, DOB, dependency information
