What we already know... Complex Sentences Contain 1 independent clause and 1 or more dependent clauses Dependent clauses start with a subordinating conjunction.; it is the word that BEGINS the dependent clause. If the sentence starts with a dependent clause, it will use a comma. Complex Sentences can be made into 2 patterns: ID - I want to play outside even though it is still winter. D, I - Even though it is still winter, I want to play outside.

SUBORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS Remember! Subordinating conjunctions are the words that START the dependent clause. Here are some of the most common subordinating conjunctions: AFTER ALTHOUGH AS AS IF AS LONG AS AS SOON AS AS THOUGH BECAUSE BEFORE EVEN IF EVEN THOUGH IF IN ORDER THAT JUST AS LIKE ONCE PROVIDED RATHER THAN SINCE SO THAT THAN THOUGH UNLESS UNTIL WHEN WHENEVER WHILE SUBORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS
