Affix : Noun an additional element placed at the beginning or end of a root, stem, or word, or in the body of a word, to modify its meaning. Prefix or a suffix

Transitions/Transition Words/ Phrases

Thesis/Controlling Idea The thesis ( your reason for writing) is usually considered the most important sentence of your essay because it outlines the central purpose of your essay in one place. A good thesis will link the subject of an essay with a controlling idea. The controlling idea contains your opinion about the topic. It shows what direction you are going to take in writing about the topic. It helps the reader understand your purpose for writing the paragraph or essay.

Thesis Statement A thesis statement focuses your ideas into one or two sentences. It should present the topic of your paper and also make a comment about your position in relation to the topic. Your thesis statement should tell your reader what the paper is about and also help guide your writing and keep your argument focused. If you are informing the reading your Thesis Statement would be different from a Persuasive Thesis. A Persuasive Statement will provide your opinion about something. Ex: Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are the best type of sandwich because they are versatile, easy to make, and taste good.

Tone In literature, the tone of a literary work expresses the writer's attitude toward or feelings about the subject matter and audience

Sensory Language/Details/ Descriptive Words Sensory details include sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste. Writers employ the five senses to engage a reader's interest. If you want your writing to jump off the page, then bring your reader into the world you are creating. Use Adjectives: beautiful, loud, soft.
