1 Imagery and Extended Metaphor
Figurative Language Imagery and Extended Metaphor

2 Imagery Imagery means to use vivid/detailed language to represent objects, actions, and ideas in such a way that it appeals to our physical senses– use many adjectives and adverbs. Use sensory details: Sensory details include sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste. Writers employ the five senses to engage a reader's interest. If you want your writing to jump off the page, then bring your reader into the world you are creating. Figurative Language--Imagery and Extended Metaphor

3 Extended Metaphor The term “extended metaphor” refers to a comparison between two unlike things that continues throughout a series of sentences in a paragraph, or lines in a poem. It is often comprised of more than one sentence, and sometimes consists of a full paragraph. Ex: “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts.”
